The Moospfad leads from Walkringen railway station via the Walkringen-Wikartswilmoos to RĂĽttihubelbad, home of the Sensorium. The walking time is listed as 35 minutes. If you read all the information on the signs, allow 1.5 to 2 hours. These time estimates help you choose what suits you: a short walk or more time to read the signs. You can plan the route according to your interests without treating the two time estimates as equivalent.

The Moospfad and Walkringer-Moos

The signs provide information about Walkringen, the Walkringen-Wikartswilmoos and the animals found there. The tourism association also offers guided walks on the Moospfad. The path is suitable for prams. Walkringer-Moos has car-free paths used for family walks. Foxes can be spotted while walking along the Moospfad. In summer, local Hornuss players practise their traditional sport on the moor.

Until 1533, Walkringer-Moos was a lake. This historical detail sits alongside today’s nature and trail themes: the signs provide information about animals, and the local Hornuss tradition is practised on the moor in summer. The different aspects also make the path interesting for visitors who want to learn about the landscape and local traditions as well as go for a walk.

Hiking and views

Walkringen is considered an ideal starting point and destination for many interesting hikes. Local hiking routes cross hills, pass through hamlets, follow streams and go by remote farms and pastures. They offer views of the Alps and the Jura, as well as valleys and ravines. One specifically described option is a leisurely hike along the Wydimattgraben to higher viewpoints overlooking the Jura and the Napf region. For a different kind of outing, Walkringen lists the “Walkringer Hügelrunde” mountain-bike tour.

Sensorium at RĂĽttihubelbad

The Sensorium is about engaging the senses. At around 80 interactive stations, visitors can hear, see, smell and touch. The experience thus offers different ways of perceiving the world rather than focusing on just one sense. In a guided activity, participants make a double spiral out of zinc-titanium under the guidance of cultural facilitators. Workshop and booking details may change, so check the current offer before your visit. The entire RĂĽttihubelbad site is wheelchair accessible. Confirm the conditions before travelling.

Church and local history

Walkringen’s church is over 500 years old and open to visitors day and night. It lies on the Herzroute cycling route and is designated as a cycling-route church; there is a toilet at the church. Archaeological excavations in 1986 and 1987 extended knowledge of the municipality’s history by 400 years. According to archaeological findings, the church was an independent parish church from the outset.

Other places and buildings also offer insights into local history. The Gasthof Bären is one of the municipality’s oldest buildings and plays a central cultural and culinary role. Two earthwork castles dating from the Alemannic settlement period are located on the Zwingherrenhubeln hills of Adlisberg and Hubelwald. Wikartswil has a protected townscape and offers views of the Alps.

Getting there and event dates

Walkringen can be reached by train on the RM line between Burgdorf and Thun. Two travel options to Rüttihubelbad are described: take the Burgdorf–Thun railway line and then a postbus, or take the Bern–Worb suburban train and then a postbus. Check timetables and connections before travelling.

The Walkringer Märit also gives small-scale producers the opportunity to exhibit their products. The organiser lists an autumn market on 24 October 2026 and a spring market on 8 May 2027, both at the Sternenzentrum Walkringen. Check the dates and details before your visit, as event information may change.
