Discover Ulricehamn in several ways: as a lakeside landscape along Lake Åsunden, as a place with traces of the railway era, and as a destination for getting active on foot, by bike or on the water. The 49-kilometre Åsundenleden trail loops around the lake and passes the Korpeboberg and Kråkebo nature reserves. The Björnöleden trail offers a different kind of landscape, leading through Komosse Nature Reserve—one of the largest mire areas in southern Sweden. The Galtåsenleden trail leads to Galtåsen, the highest point in Västergötland at 362 metres above sea level.

Trails through varied landscapes

The distances also help you find your way: the Åsundenleden is 49 kilometres long, while the Lassalyckan Trail covers about 6.7 kilometres. Around a third of the route around Åsakullen passes through Kråkebo Nature Reserve. Near Dalum, a nature and cultural heritage walk takes you past prehistoric and historic remains. Lake, mire, elevation and traces of the past each offer a different focus for exploring on foot.

Ulricehamn also has 70 kilometres of car-free, paved paths on former railway lines. They are quite different in character from hiking trails through protected areas: here, the routes are shaped by their former use and paved surfaces. Lassalyckan has trails and ski tracks that can be used in both summer and winter. Marked mountain biking routes of varying difficulty are available there, and a pump track with jumps and ramps on a hilly wooden course adds to the offering.

If you value clear wayfinding on a walk, Lassalyckan also has an accessible circular trail with tactile markings at the junctions. The markings help with navigation along the route. Alongside longer routes and trails through different landscapes, there is also a circular trail with specific accessibility features.

The town’s history in its buildings and park

Ulricehamn has medieval origins and was formerly called Bogesund. Six buildings of cultural and historical significance stand in Stadsparken. Historic buildings were moved to the park between 1910 and 1948, most of them in the first seven years. The aim when creating Stadsparken was to make a miniature Skansen. The buildings and the story of the park’s creation therefore tell different aspects of its history and design.

The railway era can also be experienced in specific places. The preserved Stationshuset still gives visitors an impression of what the town looked like when rail travel was the main mode of transport. Ulricehamns stationshus is a castle-like railway station building dating from 1906. Another architectural trace is Gamla Vattenverket: built in 1914, the building is in the National Romantic style and still has its original machinery in working order. It is close to Lake Åsunden and is now surrounded by a natural area with a lakeside promenade.

For further insights into the cultural heritage, a digital platform features parts of Ulricehamn’s picture and museum collections. In the townscape, you can also find a mural depicting Ada Nilsson at the corner of Färgaregränd and Storgatan. The Folkets Hus, which is over 100 years old, is largely preserved in its original condition; it hosts opera and theatre performances as well as numerous films.

Experiences by the water and in town

You can rent canoes at Prången bathing area. Ulricaparken has a bathing area with a jetty and sandy beach; the playground there features, among other things, an obstacle course, a climbing net and a zip line. For another way to experience Lake Åsunden, visit the cold bathhouse. It offers cold-water bathing, and all treatments include a lake swim and use of the sauna. Sturebadet is close to the centre of Ulricehamn; nearby are the cold bathhouse and the bus station, among other places.

Sports and leisure activities add to the range of things to discover. Sim- och sporthallen offers swimming, baby swimming, mini swimming and water aerobics; its facilities include two pools and a water play area. The skatepark is open to the public every day of the week. Through Ungas fritid, you can borrow skateboards, kick scooters and protective gear there for free to try out.

Local culture and flavours

At Gårdarna runt sjön, visitors can experience culture, history, locally produced food and crafts. Café Hemma på Källebacka is located in a stable building on the grounds of Källebacka, a well-preserved 18th-century manor estate. The estate itself is not open to the public. Together with Ulricehamn’s cultural and historical sites, these examples showcase different aspects of the region, and not every discovery has to be the same kind of experience.
