Dalum combines a nature and cultural trail with medieval architecture, archaeological remains and a protected landscape. The highlights are distinct: Dalumsleden is for hiking, Dalums kyrka and other sites showcase architectural and cultural history, and Dalums brinkar highlights the landscape. This lets you decide before your trip which theme matters most for your stay.

Hiking among old crofts and backstugor

Dalumsleden is a 34-kilometre nature and cultural trail around Dalum. It passes places with old crofts and backstugor. There are two wind shelters and several rest areas along the trail. Its total length makes Dalumsleden a destination in its own right when planning your trip; the rest areas and wind shelters add practical places to take a break. The old crofts and backstugor also give it a historical and cultural connection. Hiking and historic traces are thus combined in the same trail, while the church, stone house and domarring offer distinct cultural heritage themes.

Church and architectural history

Dalums kyrka is a Romanesque church dating from the 12th century, with a decorated chancel apse. Much of its medieval character has been preserved: the original walls, the nave and the narrower chancel. The chancel apse forms the end of the chancel; its decoration is a distinct architectural detail alongside the layout of the nave and narrower chancel. There are also two runestones and a lily stone in the churchyard. These stones complement the church architecture with distinctive features in the church grounds.

Other remains from different centuries

Vinsarp in Dalum is a medieval stone house and a historic building dating from the 15th century. Public access is restricted; bear this in mind if you include Vinsarp in your travel plans. Together with the church, it offers two points of reference in time: Dalums kyrka dates from the 12th century, while Vinsarp is a historic building from the 15th century. The domarring in Dalum is incomplete; four stones are interpreted as part of a now-destroyed stone circle. Unlike the dated buildings, the focus here is on the incomplete state and the interpretation of the four stones.

Landscape, nature reserve and bathing area

Dalums brinkar is a protected Natura 2000 area with species-rich dry grassland flora in pastureland classified as calcareous grassland. The area consists of a grazed slope between the settlement of Dalum and the River Ätran. Its protected status, vegetation and location each highlight a different aspect of this landscape. The Kycklingkullen nature reserve lies close to Dalum on the road towards Ulricehamn and is open to visitors. However, plants must not be removed or otherwise damaged there. At Dalums brinkar, the focus is on calcareous grassland, dry grassland flora and the grazed slope; at Kycklingkullen, the opportunity to visit comes with the rules on protecting plants.

Flatasjön Dalum is a bathing area in Ulricehamn Municipality. It is a distinct option for a stay that includes swimming, alongside hiking, architectural history and natural landscapes. If you are planning a specific day for swimming, it is a good idea to check the latest information about the bathing area.
