Tidaholm’s industrial history comes to life in the former Vulcan factory buildings on Vulcanön. The Tidaholm Museum is located there. Its permanent exhibition tells the story of how the Vulcan match factory and industrialisation shaped the town. It is about more than individual exhibits: it also shows how Tidaholm developed as an industrial town.
Industrial history in the museum and forge
Vulcan’s old forge has been preserved as a living industrial monument. Food, tools and work surfaces illustrate the working environment around 1900. Forging courses are also held at the forge; availability may vary seasonally. Another facet of the town’s industrial history is presented in the “Tidaholm’s factory cars” exhibition: nine surviving vehicles are on display in the museum’s C-Magazine.
Tidaholm Art Gallery is also housed in a building with an industrial history: the former turbine house by the Tidan River was built in 1898. Turbinhusön and the paths along the Tidan
Turbinhusön is a preserved cultural landscape on the banks of the Tidan River in central Tidaholm, with a long riverside promenade. Museistugan offers a glimpse of life in the 18th and 19th centuries through several blacksmiths’ cottages furnished in period style. The cottages can be visited in summer; check in advance when they are open. The Handelsboden shop also offers locally made products and local handicrafts in summer.
The Tidan flows through Tidaholm, and most of the central parks lie along the river. At Bruksvilleparken, you can stroll by the water, take a coffee break and use the barbecue area, which has tables and seating. There is also entertainment on the outdoor stage in summer. The Strandpromenaden runs between Östra Drottningvägen and the Tidan. Tall trees, lawns and plantings shape this path between the road and the river.
Activities throughout the seasons
Hellidsberget offers a range of activities with clearly specified distances: the Aktivitetsrundan is 2.5 kilometres long and has twelve boards with exercises for children and adults. The easy mountain biking loop is 10 kilometres long and starts at the trail centre by SISU-stugan. Trail details may change, so check them in advance. In winter, trails on Hellidsberget are prepared for cross-country skiing, depending on conditions and local operations.
Norra Rundan passes through woodland, open fields and pastures. Wildlife along the route includes grazing cows and rare bird species. If you’d rather spend time by the water, you can fish in the Tidan in central Tidaholm; a fishing licence is required. Check the current regulations before fishing.
