Explore Falköping on hiking trails of varying lengths. Hälsoslingan is a central hiking trail in the town, with a choice of 4, 6 or 8 kilometres. On Mösseberg, one hiking trail is 4.5 kilometres long, with a shorter 3.3-kilometre alternative. A hiking trail starts at the old Motionscentralen, opposite the campsite’s main parking area.
Landscapes and outdoor activities
Mösseberg is a plateau mountain with plenty of nature and leisure activities. From Burmastigen, a short boardwalk leads to a birdwatching tower with views over the reserve. Lush deciduous forests, rushing streams, meadows and pastures define the natural and cultural environment at Falekvarna. The hiking trails there have been restored; there is also a seasonal summer café and places to barbecue.
Selected cycling routes pass through open agricultural landscapes, along smaller country roads and into the challenging plateau mountains in Falköping and its neighbouring municipalities. The region offers a variety of cycling experiences, from open fields to hilly terrain.
Animal park and leisure activities on Mösseberg
The free animal park on Mösseberg is located by the observation tower. Its animals include alpacas, goats, rabbits, pigs, fallow deer, Shetland ponies, peacocks and chickens. A footpath and cycle path lead from the nearest parking area to the animal park.
Disc golf and mountain bike skills are also among the activities on Mösseberg. A 9-hole and an 18-hole disc golf course start at the entrance to Mössebergs Camping & Stugby. The MTB skills course features a pump track, jumps, a flow track, a children’s loop and balance obstacles. Mössebergsbacken has four ski slopes and four lifts.
History among parks, museums and churches
Plantis Park was established in 1885 as one of Falköping’s green spaces. The passage grave Kyrkerör is located there, opposite Biograf Cosmorama. The park also has a restaurant, mini golf and a children’s playground; check the current availability of these facilities before your visit.
Falbygdens Museum, dedicated to the history of Falbygden, is located in the heart of Falköping. Exhibits include Sweden’s oldest dog, Hallonflickan, copies of impressive gold neck rings and bronze objects. It is suggested that Hallonflickan may have been sacrificed to the gods. The churches also offer a glimpse into different historical periods. The oldest parts of S:t Olofs kyrka, on the Falköping–Varnhem Pilgrim Route, were built from limestone no later than the early 12th century. Gökhems kyrka dates from the 12th century, has largely retained its original appearance and is considered one of Västergötland’s best-preserved medieval churches. The oldest parts of Åsle kyrka also date from the 12th century.
Cheese, swimming and a regional perspective
Cheese and regional specialities are the focus at Falbygdens Osteria, which offers a cheese school, cheese tastings and guided tours of the cheese cellar. The cheese and delicatessen buffet includes cheese from Falbygden as well as other varieties from the surrounding area and beyond.
For a different kind of break, Odenbadet at Odens Sportcenter has a family area with a whirlpool, water cannon, bubble benches, a slide and a paddling pool. The relaxation area has a hot tub, cold bath, steam room, regular sauna and relaxation room. Facilities may change; check current offerings before your visit. Falköping is one of nine municipalities that work together on Platåbergens Geopark. In spring 2022, it became Sweden’s first UNESCO Global Geopark—a regional connection linking Falköping with other places in the surrounding area.
