In Stöde, water activities meet local history and nature: Vången is a centrally located bathing area right next to Stöde kyrka, and Stödehuset is immediately beside it. Other highlights include a story trail featuring tales from Stöde socken, the Skjulsta riverside meadow on the Ljungan, and the railway station on the Mittbanan. These highlights offer different starting points when choosing where to stay: you can prioritize water activities, culture or a rail connection without turning them into a fixed day plan.

Bathing Area, Outdoor Pool and Boats

Vången is centrally located in Stöde, right next to the church “Stöde kyrka.” Immediately beside the bathing area is Stödehuset, with a heated outdoor pool, a kiosk, tennis courts and the Stöde camping campsite. The two water facilities are distinct: Vången is the bathing area, while the heated pool belongs to Stödehuset. The kiosk, tennis courts and campsite are also located right there.

Stödehuset’s outdoor area includes a heated swimming pool measuring 25 × 12.5 metres and a children’s paddling pool. Rowboats and canoes are also available to rent in the heated outdoor pool area. This means several water activities are located side by side: the bathing area, the outdoor pool with its two types of pools, and two types of rental boats. If you’re planning your stay around activities on the water, you can consider these as different options.

Riverside Meadow and Plant Habitat

Skjulsta strandäng is a grazed freshwater riverside meadow on the Ljungan, in the western part of Stödesjön. It is also a valuable habitat for Ävjepilört. Skjulsta therefore has two specific natural features: the grazed riverside meadow and the habitat of the named plant species. This makes it distinct from the bathing facilities around Vången and Stödehuset.

Tales and History

The Stöde Sagostig has eight stations with signs depicting fairy tales and legends from Stöde socken. Its theme is the area’s traditional tales. The present-day church, “Stöde kyrka,” was built in 1757–1759 on the site of the old medieval church. The church also contains a limestone baptismal font from the 12th century attributed to Calcarius.

The dates distinguish between the present church building and the older baptismal font: the building dates from the 18th century, and the font from the 12th century. Together with the story trail, they make for a cultural focus that encompasses both local tales and different historical periods.

Rail and Rest Stops

Stöde is a station on the Mittbanan, served by Norrtåg trains to Sundsvall, Östersund, Åre and Storlien. This provides rail connections to the four destinations listed. If you’re planning to travel by train, check the timetable for your travel dates.

There are several rest stops along the Mittnordenleden, with benches and tables as well as wind shelters. At Skiftestjärn, there is also an open overnight shelter with a few simple sleeping platforms. The rest stops and shelter offer different ways to take a break along the route. As facilities may change, check the information before setting out.
