Discover Junsele through a range of different experiences: wildlife encounters at Djurpark, hiking trails of distinctly different lengths, historic buildings on Kyrkberget and activities by the water. There are also local foods and winter recreation options. Which of these you focus on can shape the character of your trip.
Animals at Junsele Djurpark
Junsele Djurpark is home to about 20 different animal species, including white tigers, lemurs, lynxes and meerkats. Bondgårdens Zoo-skola gives children the chance to meet pigs, sheep, horses, goats and chickens: together with an animal keeper, they learn about the animals and can collect eggs from the chickens. During the lemur encounter, visitors enter the enclosure with an animal keeper, feed the lemurs small treats and learn about the animals. This activity takes place during the zoo’s opening hours. Check seasonal availability and booking details in advance. The two activities differ in what they involve: Zoo-skola focuses on several farm animals and collecting eggs, while the lemur encounter involves spending time in the enclosure.
Kyrkberget, Ångermanälven and local products
Junsele Hembygdsgård comprises 16 buildings dating from the 18th and 19th centuries. It sits high on Kyrkberget and offers views over the Ångermanälven. Here, views of historic buildings combine with a vista of the river.
Kvarnå Trädgård is just outside the center of Junsele. It offers vegetables from small-scale farms, award-winning artisanal foods and freshly baked sourdough bread. The farm shop also sells locally produced goods made from crops grown in its own gardens, as well as products made with berries from the forests around Junsele. The selection may change. Together, garden produce and forest berries represent two different sides of the local food offering.
Water and hiking trails
Galaxen is a raft covering more than 300 m² on Lake Betarsjön near Junsele. You can rent canoes and go paddling on Lake Betarsjön and the Röån. If you plan to take part in either activity, check local rental availability and water conditions.
Two circular trails offer a clear comparison in terms of distance. Naturstigen Junsele is about 9 km long and runs near the town. Orange markings on rocks and a sign at the Junsele campsite mark the route. It gives the impression of a primeval forest. “Byarna runt i Junsele” is considerably longer at 23 km, crosses varied terrain, and starts and ends in the center of Junsele. Along the way, you pass a pasture with young cattle and a bird sanctuary with an observation tower. The circular route can also be ridden by mountain bike. The distances and trail features can help you choose between the two routes based on what matters most to you.
Winter and other activities
Hamptjärnsberget in Junsele has a slalom slope with two runs; cross-country ski trails are located below the mountain. Before visiting, check whether the slope is currently operating and whether the trails have been groomed.
In Kåtabyn, Jocke Smålänning gives a short clay pigeon shooting demonstration. Visitors are then invited to try this challenging shooting sport themselves. If you’re interested, confirm availability before your trip.
