Twelve of Nordingrå’s fourteen orchid species grow in Halsviksravinen—a striking glimpse of the nature around Nordingra. The area also offers church and cultural history, hiking trails and distinctive coastal formations. To help plan your trip, it’s useful to first decide whether you’d like to focus your stay on historic sites, a hike or scenic landscapes. Local food adds another distinctive touch.

Church history and Kyrkstallarna

NordingrĂĄ Church was completed in 1825. To its east stands the ruin of its medieval predecessor; its oldest parts date from the early 13th century. Here you can see two clearly distinct building periods: the present church and the remains of the older church that preceded it.

Twelve church stables now stand along the old road to Vågsfjärden. They are the only surviving church stables in the entire Kramfors pastorat. In the past, churchgoers used the stables when they came to church on horseback. Their location along the old road and this historical use give the group a tangible connection to how people travelled to church at the time.

Art, viewpoints and hiking trails

Mannaminne is an art and cultural village in Nordingra, with around 50 buildings and vehicles from around the world. The steep trail to the summit of Stortorget also starts at Mannaminne. The viewpoint is 135 metres above sea level. This makes it possible to combine a cultural attraction with a steep climb to a high-altitude viewpoint, depending on your interests.

The Omneleden offers a different kind of hiking option: this moderate circular trail starts at Omnebadet, is 5.2 kilometres long and takes about three hours. These details make it a well-defined option for planning your time. The Världsarvsleden offers a much longer hike, stretching for 14 Swedish miles through the Nordingrå countryside. Comparing the trails, you’ll find a circular route that takes around three hours alongside a route that is considerably longer.

Coastal landscapes and nature

Rotsidan is a four-kilometre stretch of coastline with flat diabase rock formations polished by the sea. The focus here is on the water-shaped rock surfaces and the length of the coastal stretch. Halsviksravinen offers a different natural highlight: twelve of Nordingrå’s fourteen orchid species grow here. In addition, ten of the municipality of Kramfors’s 17 nature reserves are located in Nordingrå.

Högbonden is a nature reserve with a hostel near the lighthouse, and has been a classic lighthouse site since 1909. An excursion boat operated by Höga Kusten-Båtarna provides access from Barsta or Bönhamn. As the service is seasonal, check before you travel.

Local food and practical information

At Gårdsbutiken in Själand, you can buy locally produced food and have lunch or dinner. Check the opening details before your visit. The InfoPoint Nordingrå Kyrka provides tourist information, as well as maps and brochures for Nordingrå and the Höga Kusten. It is open during the summer in July and August; check the current opening hours in advance.

When looking for a hotel in Nordingra, it can help to first decide what you’d like to focus on during your stay: church history, art and culture, hiking trails, coastal landscapes or local food. The different trail lengths and durations help you compare your options, while Rotsidan and Högbonden offer other natural and scenic highlights.
