Gräsmark has three nature reserves, numerous hiking trails and several swimming spots. It also has cultural and historical destinations such as Tiskaretjärn and the Gruvrundan. When planning your stay, you can focus on nature, water or history.
Hiking Trails and Their Highlights
Deltaleden, also known as Deltarundan, is a very easy 4.8-kilometre route. It follows the Rottnan River for most of the way to Lake Rottnen. At 8 kilometres, Västra Råtjärnsleden is longer and climbs to several viewpoints; it was formerly called Styggbergsstigen. In the Västra Råtjärnsleden area, hyperite rock has helped form nutrient-rich moraine, supporting a diverse flora. The trails differ in length and landscape: river and lake scenery on Deltaleden, and viewpoints and diverse flora on Västra Råtjärnsleden. For this hike, you can start at Naturcamping Lagom or park instead at the nearby swimming spot.
Ängenleden runs around Ängsjön and offers a wealth of nature and cultural experiences. Finnsjöns vandringsled has a different focus: it explores the region’s history at the intersection of Forest Finn heritage and Swedish summer-pasture culture.
Cultural Landscape and Mining
At Tiskaretjärn, you can experience the traditional cultural landscape and buildings of Finnskogen. The nature reserve is also a characteristic setting of Finnbygden, which emerged from Finnish colonisation in the late 16th century. Gruvrundan offers a different historical focus: it passes through the Mangen mining area between Lakes Mången and Trehörningen. Along the trail are remains of copper works, ore-processing works, mines, an ore transport cableway, slag heaps and a soapstone quarry.
