Uddheden offers several distinct perspectives: the history of a church village, a hiking trail with views of the lake and church, paths through the delta landscape, and a canoe route. When planning your trip, the contrast matters: the hiking routes connect the lake, village centre or delta, while paddling and cross-country skiing each have their own seasonal conditions. You can explore culture and nature through specific places and routes, rather than shaping your stay around just one activity.

Church, local history and lake

Gräsmark Church is a stone church built between 1733 and 1739. It stands on a peninsula in Lake Udden. The ceiling painting depicts the Last Judgement and was created by Erik Jonaeus. The construction period and Uddheden’s development as a church village and centre in Rottnadalen place the building in the historical context of the area. Gräsmark Cemetery is set in a scenic location beside Lake Udden, which borders it to the north and east.

There is also a scenic viewpoint in the centre of Uddheden, with views across Lillsjön and the church. In local usage, Lillsjön is the name for Lake Udden; both names therefore refer to the same body of water. Lillsjön bathing area faces south. The views across the lake and towards the church, as well as the bathing area’s orientation, provide two clear points of reference by the water.

Hiking between the lake and the delta

Lillsjön runt is an easy, 4.5-kilometre hiking trail starting at Gräsmark Church. It goes around Lake Udden, locally known as Lillsjön, and passes through the centre of Uddheden. Along the way, there are lovely views of the lake and church. The starting point, loop around the lake and village centre are all part of the route. Its length and difficulty rating provide a clear guide for choosing a trail; conditions may vary.

The Uddheden–Gräsmarksdeltat hiking trail is easy and about 4.8 kilometres long. It runs along the Rottnan Delta and starts at the southern end of Rottnavallen. A shorter option starts on a road near the old sawmill, where there is a small car park. Deltarundan runs along the edge of Uddheden through a delta landscape. This gives you a practical distinction when choosing: the Uddheden–Gräsmarksdeltat trail is rated easy and has a shorter starting option, while Deltarundan is shaped by the village outskirts and delta landscape.

Canoeing and winter trails

The canoe route in Gräsmark is 11.6 kilometres long and has two signposted access points. It follows a section of the Rottnan past Uddheden, continues via Sågendammen onto Lillsjön and ends at the bathing area. This connects a stretch of river with the lake. Water levels and conditions vary by season; check the water conditions before your trip.

In winter, Uddheden has cross-country ski trails with electric lighting along the Rottnan. Their use depends on snow conditions. Snow is the key factor for the ski trails, while seasonal water conditions should be considered for the canoe route. These differences can help you choose activities based on when you travel and the landscape you want to experience.
