The extensive forest landscape of Järlåsabygden includes forests, lakes and wetlands. It has a wilderness feel, provides a resource for outdoor life and attracts visitors from the surrounding area. Historical traces and local offerings also reveal other sides of Järlåsa.
Nature and outdoor activities
In the Järlåsa area, the Upplandsleden connects outdoor life westward and northward across the municipal boundary. The trail is part of a landscape that can be explored through more than just a single recreational activity. In a municipal survey in 2023, many people also named green spaces, swimming areas and the floodlit running track as important features of Järlåsa’s character.
For winter, two specific trail lengths are listed: the 1 km and 1.5 km exercise and ski trails start at Järlåsa School. At present, visitors are advised to stay away because of storm damage to the lighting and numerous fallen trees, until the trail has been repaired. Before visiting, check whether the warning is still in effect. The 1.5 km trail is half a kilometre longer than the 1 km trail.
Church ruins and cultural landscape
The ruins of Järlåsa’s oldest medieval stone church lie about 500 metres north of the present-day church. They are also part of the Nordanå/Kyrkbyn cultural landscape. This area is considered highly valuable from a cultural-historical perspective and is partly protected under Sweden’s Cultural Environment Act. This means the church ruins can be viewed not only as a historic building in their own right, but also as part of the wider cultural landscape.
Mejeriet tells another chapter of the area’s history. The abandoned factory in Järlåsa was once, among other things, a production site for the chocolate drink Pucko. Together with the church ruins, it offers a glimpse into different aspects of local history—from medieval church building to earlier production.
Cultural events and local life
