The Björklinge outdoor recreation area is located by Långsjön, 20 kilometres north of Uppsala. Its activities range from mountain biking and disc golf to winter pursuits that depend on different conditions. Björklinge Church adds a landscape and historical perspective to the recreation area.

Mountain Biking and Disc Golf

The outdoor recreation area has a mountain biking trail with two sections. Both start and finish at the large gravel parking area between the swimming area and the gravel pit. This shared starting and finishing area provides a clear geographical reference point for both sections.

The disc golf course at Sandviksbadet is suitable for all ages and skill levels; a full round takes about 40 minutes. This is an approximate duration for the entire round, not an exact schedule. Disc golf therefore offers a time reference, while the mountain biking trail can be understood in terms of its two sections and their shared starting and finishing point.

Swimming Area and Orientation

The swimming area in the outdoor recreation area is called Sandviksbadet, Långsjöbadet or Björklingebadet. These are three names for the same swimming area, not three different bathing spots. At Björklingebadet, also known as Sandviksbadet, there are changing rooms with showers and toilets.

Landscape and History

Björklinge Church stands on the southern slope of the ridge, where the Uppsala plain gives way to woodland. The southern slope describes the church’s precise location; the transition from plain to woodland also places it in its landscape context. The ridge, hillside setting and change in landscape make the location easy to picture.

At Björklinge Church, Agneta Horn had an elaborate tomb structure—that is, a funerary chapel—built for herself and her husband. The commission was for both spouses. Sätuna funerary chapel contains 28 coffins in total. These two details highlight different aspects of history: a tomb structure built for a married couple, and a specific number of coffins.

Winter Activities and Their Conditions

The Sjöhagsspåret cross-country ski trail is about 2.5 kilometres long; its use depends on snow conditions. When the weather allows and the ice is safe enough, an approximately five-kilometre ice-skating track is laid on Långsjön. It starts from the shore at Sandviksbadet. The possible skating track is therefore about twice as long as the cross-country ski trail—a specific difference to consider when choosing between the routes.

The gravel pit area also has a sledding hill, which requires sufficient snow depth, as well as a small ski lift and two downhill runs, which depend on suitable snow conditions. Check current conditions for your chosen winter activity before your visit.

The activities offer different planning references: an approximate round duration for disc golf, a shared starting and finishing area for mountain biking, and route lengths and conditions in winter.
