A stay in Sundbyberg can be shaped around nature trails, park history, contemporary art or literature.
Nature: Protected Landscapes and Parkland
Igelbäckens Nature Reserve was established in 2004 to protect the Igelbäcken and preserve the surrounding landscape for recreation and nature experiences. An accessible circular trail is intended to make the area accessible to more people. Protecting the watercourse and providing opportunities for recreation go hand in hand here with a route designed to be more accessible.
Lötsjön-Golfängarna Nature Reserve covers 28 hectares. The area includes parkland with wooded sections, open lawns and a bird lake, as well as facilities such as a playground, a paddling pool and a ball court. Several walking and cycling paths cross the protected area. The nature experiences therefore offer different options: an accessible circular trail in Igelbäckens Nature Reserve, and parkland with varied landscapes and recreational facilities in Lötsjön-Golfängarna Nature Reserve.
Trails and Routes
Hälsans stig is a five-kilometre walking and running route around Lötsjön that continues to Råstasjön in Solna. A specific route length can help with day-trip planning; at the same time, the route offers an extension to a second named lake destination. Together with the accessible circular trail in Igelbäckens Nature Reserve, this offers different ways to plan: a loop intended to make the area accessible to more people, or a route with a clearly stated length.
More Activities and Practical Information
Ursviks motionsomrĂĄde has an activity trail for children. There is a car park near the area, where parking is permitted for four hours with a parking disc. The first section at Kvarnkullen has been completed, and the area is open to visitors. Check the conditions before travelling.
Park History, Architecture and Literature
Landscape architect Sven Hermelin worked on Marabouparken for 18 years, from 1937 to 1955. In 2008, Marabouparken received the “Sweden’s Most Beautiful Park” award. Marabouparken Konsthall presents exhibitions by Swedish and international artists, with a focus on contemporary artistic practices. Park history and contemporary art exhibitions offer different points of interest for a culture-focused stay. The award came more than five decades after Hermelin’s period of work.
The area around Duvbo, with its houses, parks and streets, has been designated an area of national interest for cultural heritage management since 1987. It features larger villas from the early 20th century and smaller houses from the mid-20th century. These two distinct groups of buildings from different periods shape the architectural history of Duvbo.
Sundbyberg has 16 literary signs (“Litterära skyltar”). Each sign represents an author with a connection to Sundbyberg and includes quotations describing the city in literature. The signs thus connect authors with passages that portray Sundbyberg in literature.
