Munka-Ljungby offers a variety of ways to experience your stay: activity, landscapes, water and historic traces. Specific points of interest include the outdoor gym in the northern part of the village, the Munka-Möllestig near the Rössjöholmsån, Laxtrappan and Munka Ljungby Church. Each of these offers a different focus. When planning your overnight stay, it may help to decide first whether you want to prioritise activity, nature or culture.
Nature, activity and landscapes
The Munka Ljungby outdoor gym is in the northern part of the village and offers a specific opportunity to be active when planning your trip. The Munka-Möllestig is a nature and culture trail near the Rössjöholmsån. It offers a different focus: the gym centres on activity, while the trail combines nature and culture. These two points of interest may appeal to different interests when planning your trip.
South of Munka-Ljungby, the Skillinge-Össjö area between Hallandsåsen and Rönne å features a hilly landscape with extensive fields. Hills and open fields define the scenery, setting it apart from individual buildings or named activities. If you also want to take the surroundings into account when choosing your destination, this landscape to the south is a distinct aspect of your plans. The specific attractions in the village are thus complemented by a landscape-focused destination in the Skillinge-Össjö area.
Water and history at Laxtrappan
Laxtrappan has refreshing swimming spots and a babbling waterfall, with parking nearby. The site also has a specific historical connection: in 1767, the Nya Mölla sawmill stood at Laxtrappan and belonged to Skillinge estate. Water and history thus give you two different reasons to visit Laxtrappan. The swimming spots and waterfall offer a different focus from the year, which marks a historical point of reference.
Church, paintings and a regular event
The architectural features and paintings of Munka Ljungby Church offer distinct cultural points of interest. The chancel is the oldest surviving part of the church and is thought to have been built as a chapel for the monks of Herrevad Abbey. Medieval wall paintings were also discovered and preserved in the church. These details raise different questions: the chancel relates to its possible function as a chapel, while the paintings relate to medieval wall art and its preservation. Together with the sawmill mentioned at Laxtrappan in 1767, they offer a comparison between different historical traces: a dated sawmill and art identified as medieval.
The open church at Munka Ljungby kyrka is scheduled for the third Thursday of each month at 2 pm from September onwards. The event includes a waffle café and refreshments at cost price, 30 SEK. As the recurring event may change, check before your visit whether it is taking place on your travel date. If the event is of interest during your stay, you can plan your visit for the stated day of the week and time.
