Hjärnarp Church preserves a 12th-century baptismal font. The illuminated running trail has two route options; marked hiking trails near Djurholmen lead through marshland, a ravine and forest.
Church Art in Hjärnarp
The present-day Hjärnarp Church was completed in 1844. The church preserves a 12th-century sandstone baptismal font, a 17th-century brass basin and an 18th-century collection box. Their different dates give the furnishings distinct historical accents.
A large-scale painting adds to this cultural focal point: it measures approximately 100 square metres and depicts around sixty figures, together portraying the Passion Week of Jesus. The church thus features both individual historic furnishings and a many-figured scene.
Exercise in Hjärnarps prästaskog Nature Reserve
Hjärnarps prästaskog is a beech forest nature reserve with significant natural values; the reserve was established in 2023. It has an illuminated running trail and an outdoor gym. The running trail offers 1.2- and 1.7-kilometre options. You can compare the two lengths when planning your time, without implying any specific walking or running time.
Exercise in Hjärnarp also includes the “Puls & Styrka” activity circuit along the exercise trail. Twelve signs set out strength exercises at two difficulty levels. So, as well as the running trail, the offering includes individual exercises; the two levels apply to the circuit’s exercises.
Hiking Landscape near Djurholmen
Djurholmen can be reached via the Hjärnarp exit on the E6, exit 37, and then by following the signposted route. It is about 8 kilometres from Hjärnarp. Marked hiking trails there cross marshland, pass through a stream ravine with small waterfalls, and continue through beech and coniferous forests. The landscape alternates between open marsh, wooded sections and the course of the ravine.
Århultsbäcken cuts a deep ravine into Hallandsåsen, with old forest and a small waterfall. Remains of a small water-powered mill are located beside the stream. It used water power to grind families’ grain into flour or was used for sawing. The ravine and mill remains represent different aspects of the landscape: its natural form and an earlier use of water power.
More Trails and the Cycling Stage
Near Hjärnarp lies Djurholmamossen, one of the few surviving raised bogs in Skåne. The bog is also one of the few remaining lek sites for black grouse in Skåne. So the area is notable not only for its open bog landscape, but also for its importance to this bird species.
Two other trails near Hjärnarp differ in length and character. Mossestigen in Århultsbäcken Nature Reserve is 4 kilometres long and hilly. The 2.8-kilometre Grönalidstigen follows an old sunken lane.
There is also a dedicated option for a cycling trip: the Hjärnarp–Båstad cycling route stage follows a railway embankment through Sinarpsdalen, a 230-million-year-old valley, and continues to the scenic landscapes of Hallandsåsen. This clearly distinguishes it from the hiking trails described above. When choosing your destination, you can weigh up church art and exercise in Hjärnarp, hikes in the surrounding area, and this cycling stage.
