The preserved interiors of Stripa Gruvmiljö bring mining history to life. Stripa Gruvmiljö is a cultural heritage site with unique architecture. Stripa gruva has been a listed building since 2007. In summer, tours explore the history of mining and industry in Sweden. Check dates and booking arrangements in advance. The site is also home to Stripabryggeriet, a craft brewery with a restaurant that opens only for special occasions.
City History on a Walking Tour and in a Model
A walking tour through the city centre takes you to nine historic sites, presented with pictures, texts and an audio guide. This lets you explore Lindesberg’s history step by step. A detailed model at Blombergska gården offers a different perspective on the city’s former appearance: at a scale of 1:220, it shows what Lindesberg used to look like. In the city centre, the Paint the City project turns streets into an open-air gallery with large murals on the walls.
The hand papermaking workshop at Frövifors Pappersbruksmuseum also encourages visitors to discover things for themselves: on certain days in summer, visitors can make paper there. Check the specific workshop dates before planning your visit.
Industrial History and a Bergsmansgård
At Löa hytta, a blast furnace, a charcoal burner’s hut, bridges, a forge and a waterwheel are all part of the site. Iron has been produced there since the 15th century. Visits are possible only as part of a booked guided tour, which explains the history of the site and iron production.
Siggebohyttans bergsmansgård offers a different glimpse into the past. Construction of the main building began around 1790; it has 14 rooms and 3 kitchens. Families can enjoy green spaces, borrow toys made from natural materials and take in views of Lake Usken.
Nature Reserves and Trails
The Munkhyttan and Tempelbacken nature reserves showcase different aspects of nature. Munkhyttan protects two butterfly species that are endangered in Europe: Asknätfjärilen and Väddnätfjärilen. Tempelbacken covers 10 hectares of species-rich deciduous forest and is home to many bird species.
The Lindessjön runt circular trail passes through the town, the countryside, nature reserves and along the lakeshore. The 7-kilometre loop can be extended to 8.5 kilometres; the walk starting and ending in the city centre is described as approximately 8 kilometres. There are seven rest areas along the way where you can barbecue or have a picnic.
Malingsbo-Kloten is one of Sweden’s largest nature reserves. You can hike, paddle, fish, cycle and join guided tours there; the first section of the Bergslagsleden trail also runs through the area. Check the activities on offer before your arrival. Klotenlägrets klätterpark features a climbing course with 14 stations high up in the trees, a giant swing and the chance to step out into the air from a height of 8 metres. On the Water and on the Move
From the kayak station at Loppholmen, next to the arena in Lindesberg, visitors can explore Lindesjön, Bottenån and Råsvalen by kayak. Check kayak availability in advance. Boat trips on the MS Råsvalen depart from Kyrkbryggan below Lindesbergs stadshotell, travel along Bottenån to Lake Råsvalen and return; check departure times in advance.
