Near Kungsbacken, the Lilla Kungsleden offers views across Lake Unden; the Mossaberget Nature Reserve lies close to Lake Unden and Tiveden National Park. The history of settlement in Kungsbacken dates back to the 17th century. For planning, the focus is on the route of the Lilla Kungsleden and historical traces in Kungsbacken and Sannerud.

Hiking the Lilla Kungsleden

The Lilla Kungsleden branches off from the country road and climbs to Kungsbacken, where it offers views across Lake Unden. After Porsavattnet, the route follows gravel and forest roads to Kungsbacken, then returns to Sannerud along the same route. On the way back, it follows a forest path to the old village road near Kungsbacken. Signage is missing in some places, so check the map or GPX track before setting out.

Mossaberget and Tiveden

The Mossaberget Nature Reserve lies close to Lake Unden and Tiveden National Park. Under the nature reserve regulations dated November 28, 2022, the properties Kungsbacken 1:2 and Kungsbacken 1:3 are included in the area. Tiveden National Park protects an unspoiled landscape of forests, lakes, and narrow rocky ravines. Pine and spruce forests, swamp forests, and rocky outcrops develop there freely toward a true primeval forest character. More than 34 kilometers of marked hiking trails pass through deep fissures in the rocks and over lichen-covered ridges. Many trails are hilly and can be challenging.

The figure of more than 34 kilometers refers to the marked hiking trails in the national park; the Lilla Kungsleden, by contrast, is characterized by its sections through Kungsbacken and the return to Sannerud. When choosing between the natural attractions, the focus is therefore on a marked network of trails with rocky fissures and ridges, and a named route featuring gravel and forest roads.

Getting to Tiveden National Park

The easiest way to get to the national park is by car; it can also be reached by public transport, on foot, or by bicycle. At the main entrance in the middle of the park, there is a car park, information, toilets, and an exhibition.

History between Kungsbacken and Sannerud

Kättefallet was a new settlement founded on Kungsbacken’s lands in the second half of the 17th century. Some of the residents of Kungsbacken considered access to the church in Undenäs sufficient. After many years of discussions, construction of a new church, Tiveds kyrka, began in Sannerud in 1847. Olof Hansson was born in Kvarntorp in 1713 and died in Kungsbacken, Tived, in 1767. Kerstin Olofsdotter was born in Kungsbacken, Tived, in 1718 and died there in 1785.

The chronology brings together different historical milestones: Kättefallet’s founding in the second half of the 17th century, the lifetimes of Olof Hansson and Kerstin Olofsdotter in the 18th century, and the start of construction of Tiveds kyrka in 1847. The local history therefore spans several generations and places.
