Mörbylånga brings together a range of travel interests: a historic audio trail about the market town, a coastal stage of the Mörbylångaleden, a church landscape shaped by history, and galleries. These are clearly distinct highlights: local history, hiking, architectural heritage and art. You can tailor your stay to the topics that interest you most.

Hiking and Local History

Mörbylångaguiden is a historic audio trail about the market town of Mörbylånga. It puts the town’s history at the heart of the experience, offering a cultural and historical perspective. Stage 2 of the Mörbylångaleden runs for 18 km along the coast between Skogsby and Mörbylånga. Stage 3 of the Mörbylångaleden is 13.5 km long. Stage 2 is therefore 4.5 km longer than Stage 3, making the difference clear if you compare the two hiking options by distance. Mörbylångaguiden focuses on the history of the market town, while choosing a stage lets you focus on the length of the hiking route.

Church, World Heritage and Streetscape

Mörbylånga Church stands on the coastal plain below the western escarpment. The location of the church village dates back to the Middle Ages; the church ensemble is part of the “Södra Ölands odlingslandskap” World Heritage Site. The medieval connection applies to the location of the church village, while its World Heritage status places the church ensemble within the named area.

The streetscape also has its own historical context: Mörbylånga’s streets reflect the character of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The medieval origins of the church village and this later streetscape point to different periods in the town’s history. If you are interested in architectural heritage, you can extend your view from the church to the streetscape, which complements the church landscape with a later architectural impression.

Galleries and Art Forms

Atelje 3 Hedin is a house with studios and a gallery on the Kalmarsund Strait. It exhibits textile pieces made of wool, linen and silk, as well as paintings inspired by the nature of Öland, the sea and the alvar. Different artistic perspectives come together here: the textile pieces foreground their materials, while the paintings draw inspiration from the landscape and nature.

In the centre of Mörbylånga, the gallery of glass artist Betina Huber displays art glass, lamps and jewellery. An appointment must be booked for a personal opening. If you would like to plan a visit to this gallery, be sure to book an appointment.

Harbour and Beach

Mörbylånga’s guest harbour lies on the west coast of Öland in the southern Kalmarsund Strait. There are around 20 guest berths at the western quay. There is also a bathing beach in a northern area of Mörbylånga, beside a grass-covered slope. The harbour and beach offer different ways to enjoy the water: here, guest berths on the Kalmarsund Strait; there, a bathing beach in the northern part of town.
