In Töre, an archipelago of islands, beaches and harbours meets maritime themes and Cold War memorial sites. This gives visitors different ways to plan their trip – from the coast to the region’s history.

Regatta and Archipelago Coast

The MidsummerSail regatta covers about 900 nautical miles (1,670 km). It starts at the southernmost point of the Baltic Sea and finishes in Töre every year around Midsummer. The finish is Töre harbour, which lies at the northernmost point of the Baltic Sea. If you want to include the regatta in your travel plans, check the event dates in advance.

Töre’s archipelago is part of the world’s second-largest brackish-water area. Bärsjärdan Beach is a small bathing spot with a jetty, about 1 km outside Töre centre. In winter, the archipelago offers opportunities for ski trips; conditions vary from one winter to the next. The seasonal highlights therefore differ: a coastal bathing spot on the one hand and winter excursions in the archipelago on the other.

Cold War Memorial Sites

The submarine museum in Töre harbour commemorates suspected violations of Swedish territorial waters by submarines during the Cold War. Next to the museum in Törehamn stands the Summer Cottage Cannon: a coastal gun disguised as an ordinary summer house during the Cold War. The museum is open from 11:00 to 16:00 during the season; check seasonal opening hours before your visit.

HMS Spiggen II is also part of this military history. The submarine was built in 1990 for the First Swedish Submarine Flotilla as a target submarine for anti-submarine warfare exercises. Töre Church offers a different perspective: it stands on a hill at the mouth of the Töreälven.

Cultural History Around Töre

Nearby Törefors is designated a cultural environment of national interest and is associated with Norrbotten’s mining and ironworks history. The historic surroundings include a workers’ dwelling, an office, a manor house, a mill, a storehouse, a turbine house, a blast furnace ruin, foundations, a dam channel, a quay, spoil heaps and a slag heap. The range spans residential and workplace buildings as well as industrial remains and infrastructure.

Hyttgården/Töre Hembygdsförening includes a museum and meeting rooms. For a hands-on culinary experience, you can rent a bakery in Töre to bake Klådda and similar foods.

Local Offerings and Getting There

Norrbottens Destilleri in Töre has a farm shop. Visitor information is seasonal, so check it before travelling. Food and drinks were offered there in summer 2026; check before travelling to see whether the offering is currently available. A tasting with a cocktail event is also part of the offering; ask in advance about dates and reservations.
