Lenhovda combines a long history with lakeside attractions and places to explore nearby. You can choose a clear focus when planning your trip: the courthouse, burial ground and church represent different historical chapters, while Lenhovdasjön and the nearby nature reserve add a connection to water and landscape. This lets you decide in advance whether cultural history, or a combination of history, nature and exercise, is a better fit for your stay.

Local history across several eras

Lenhovda Courthouse was built in the 1770s. It is protected by the state and was designated a listed building in 1975. The Tjuvakistan district prison is right next door. Tours of the courthouse are available by arrangement, so plan your visit in advance.

Lenhovda became a parish centre by the 13th century at the latest. In the Middle Ages, it also became the court venue for Uppvidinge Hundred and retained this function until 1969, when the last court session was held there. This long history helps place the buildings in context: the 18th-century courthouse stands in a place with much older ecclesiastical and judicial traditions.

Lenhovda gravfält takes you further back in time: it dates from the Iron Age and comprises about 170 archaeological remains. It is one of the largest burial grounds in Kronoberg County. If you want to explore local history chronologically, you’ll find a much earlier point of reference here than in the medieval court and parish traditions or the buildings from the 18th and 19th centuries.

Lenhovda kyrka continues the ecclesiastical history, with two separate dates: it was first used on the first Sunday of Advent in 1843 and consecrated in 1846. Use thus began before the consecration. Together with Lenhovda’s role as a parish centre, this offers a distinct perspective on local religious history alongside its medieval role as a court venue.

Nature, the lake and exercise

East of Lenhovda, nearby, lies the Singelstorps fly nature reserve, which has been protected since 2000. It includes bogland, coniferous forest, a small lake and a ridge that serves as a refuge. The bog, forest, lake and ridge give the reserve its own distinctive landscape, which you can consider alongside local history when choosing your destination.

There is a designated dog beach at Lenhovdasjön. If you’re travelling with a dog, this is a practical point to consider when planning time by the lake. The municipal fishing directory lists Lenhovdasjön as a fisheries management area and names Lenhovda FVO. The dog beach and fisheries management area reflect different interests in the lake. Lenhovda also has a lit running and exercise trail, giving you another local option if you want to include physical activity in your stay.

Transport links and choosing where to stay

There are daily public transport connections from Lenhovda within Uppvidinge Municipality and to Växjö. Check departure times for your travel dates if you plan to use these connections. When deciding where to stay, you can choose according to your main interest: local history, nature by the lake or exercise on the lit trail.
