Åboda offers several specific travel-related points of interest: the Åbodasjöns badplats bathing spot by Åbodasjön, the sawmill in its present form following the fire of 1968, and the Västra Sigfridsleden pilgrimage and hiking trail. When planning your trip, it is worth considering the water, local history and route as separate focal points. This will help you decide whether the bathing spot or a hike should set the pace of your stay.

Bathing spot by Åbodasjön

Åbodasjöns badplats is located in Åboda by Åbodasjön. The lake is small and lies in the northern part of Alvesta Municipality near Åboda, north of Slätthög. The names refer to different points of reference: Åbodasjöns badplats is the bathing spot, and Åbodasjön is the lake.

The bathing water in Åboda was classified in 2025 for the 2026 bathing season and rated “excellent”. This classification applies explicitly to that season. If you are planning to swim in a different season, check the classification that applies to it rather than treating the rating as timeless.

Route to the bathing spot

The directions to the bathing spot start in Slätthög: first, follow the road towards Åboda. In Åboda, turn right onto a smaller gravel road between meadows. The turn is therefore in Åboda; until then, follow the road towards the village.

History and landscape

The sawmill in Åboda took on its present form after a fire in 1968. The history of the sawmill can therefore be linked to a specific event. Åboda 21 is a 0.3-hectare remnant of a former deciduous meadow, now characterised by valuable broadleaf forest. Former meadow use and the present-day woodland character coexist here; its small size makes the landscape change tangible within a compact area.

Hiking and routes

The Västra Sigfridsleden is a pilgrimage and hiking trail through the Alvesta parish. It runs from Fridafors via Växjö and Alvesta, then continues north through Moheda. A 2014 travel account places one stage of the trail through Åboda. Before setting out, check the current route and trail conditions.

The Vårbilrundan route also passes through Åboda; a report from 2024 describes this route. Alvesta-Korpen’s Vårbilrundan has been a local tradition since the early 1960s.

Water or hiking trail?

These are two different focal points for your planning: at the bathing spot, you have a specific destination by the lake and directions from Slätthög. For hiking, the focus is on the wider route of the Västra Sigfridsleden and the stage through Åboda, which should be checked before setting out. If you are considering both, you can first decide whether the bathing visit or the hiking trail should shape your trip.
