Near Storebro, the StĂĄngĂĄn changes its direction of flow and runs north. Nearby are easily datable landmarks in industrial and cultural history, as well as a forest-history walking trail and cycling options with different surfaces. This gives you a practical choice when planning between local history, a 2.5 km walking trail and routes that differ in direction and surface.

Storebro’s industrial history and cultural landmarks

Storebro Bruk was founded in 1728 by Wilhelm Mauritz Pauli. In 1860, Storebro transitioned to the mechanical workshop industry. The dates mark distinct milestones: the founding of a named business and a later industrial transition in Storebro. They therefore provide two chronological reference points for the town’s history.

Storebro kyrka is a wooden church dating from 1969. It was built on site in a single day, on 24 March 1969. Visans Skepp, a cultural landmark in Storebro, was created between 1978 and 1988. The church and Visans Skepp complement the early industrial milestones with architectural and cultural history from the later 20th century. The different dates can be placed in chronological context without combining them into a single event.

River, walking trail and cycling routes

Storebro is located where the StĂĄngĂĄn changes its direction of flow and runs north. Another way to explore the area is the forest-history walking trail, which is 2.5 km long. Its length gives you a practical basis for planning; its focus on forest history offers a different emphasis from the industrial landmarks. You can choose what to focus on during your stay depending on whether you prefer local history or the trail.

The Storebro–Solnen cycling loop runs from the centre of Storebro towards Solnehult and reaches the bathing area at Solnen about halfway along. It includes paved roads, gravel tracks and some trail sections. A trail section about 600 metres long can be wet in spring and after rain; some rock slabs can become slippery when wet. Seasonal traffic and trail conditions may vary, so check conditions before setting out.

The Storebrorundan runs mainly on paved roads, with short gravel sections, and leads from Vimmerby Torg towards the industrial site of Storebro. Conditions and signage may change. The difference is clear when choosing based on surface: the Storebro–Solnen cycling loop also includes trail sections, while the Storebrorundan is predominantly paved.

The bathing area at Dammen, recorded by the municipality in 2022, is on municipal land; facility details may change. Regular bus services operate, particularly to Vimmerby, Hultsfred and Västervik. Check the latest timetables before travelling. You can submit a request to book a trainer via the Storebro IF website. If you plan to use this option, check the current request procedure and whether a visit is possible; a request is not a confirmed booking.
