The Hokaån flows through Hok; its enchanting riverside promenade offers nature experiences and peaceful views. There are also hiking trails, gravel routes, golf and spa options to consider when planning your trip.

Hiking: different routes and trail profiles

The Höglandsleden passes through Vaggeryd Municipality, by Hooks Herrgård in Hok, and continues eastward via Långserum. The HÖ20 stage of the Höglandsleden also starts at Hooks Herrgård. From there, the route heads towards Byarum or Tomtabacken. An unmarked 1.6 km detour each way connects the main trail with Hok railway station, where train and bus connections are available.

Two other trails can be distinguished by their routes. Munkaleden runs between Nydala and Byarum: the 40 km route offers a meditative walk along a well-marked trail. Munkagårdsleden starts at Munkehatt and runs via Svenarum and Hok, as well as the Höglandsleden, to Byarum Church. Byarum is therefore on both routes, but the descriptions refer to different routes and destinations.

Gravel routes of varying distances

The 32 km Sjöarundan gravel route starts at the entrance to Hooks Herrgård and heads towards Lakes Fängen and Sandsjön. Via Ödestugu, it returns towards Hok and then descends to Hokasjön and Hooks Herrgård. This makes it possible to follow the route by several named locations.

Two shorter gravel cycling loops pass through the Lyngemadssjön Nature Reserve and return to Hook. They are 16 and 20 km long, respectively. By comparison, Sjöarundan is 32 km; the three distances provide a concrete guide when choosing a route, without indicating how long it takes to walk or cycle.

Water landscapes and local history

The riverside promenade along the Hokaån is part of Hok’s townscape. Another named landscape feature is Skomakarens kammare: it is located where Hästgångsån flows into Lyngemadssjön, northeast of Hooks Herrgård. The two places therefore represent different connections to water: a riverside promenade in town and a confluence northeast of Hooks Herrgård.

The town’s history also provides context: in the mid-14th century, Hok was the estate of the nobleman Herger Joarsson. The time period and named individual give this local history a specific historical context.

Golf and spa

Hooks Golfklubb offers two 18-hole courses with different characteristics. One is open and lies by Hokasjön; the other is a woodland course that winds through partly dense forest and offers an enchanting atmosphere. The golf academy offers activities for all age groups, led by experienced PGA club professionals. Guests and members can take part.

Another option is the spa at Hooks Herrgård. It includes hot and cold springs, experience showers and treatment rooms overlooking Hokasjön. The golf courses, academy and spa are distinct options to consider when choosing your activities.

Getting here by train and bus

Krösatågen trains on the Halmstad–Nässjö route stop in Hok. Check the current timetable before travelling, as services and times may change. For hikers, the distance between the main trail and the railway station is also relevant: the detour is 1.6 km each way and is unmarked. Be sure to account for this section when planning your route.
