Hiking trails, golf and nature give a trip to Hok a range of possible focuses. To plan your stay, it helps to first decide what you want it to revolve around: a route with named start and end points, golf at Hooks GK, or time spent in nature. These interests provide practical guidance when looking for accommodation and planning your days.
Hiking trails with different routes
Munkaleden is a 40 km meditation trail from Nydala to Byarum. Munkagårdsleden starts at Munkehatt and runs via Svenarum, Hok and Höglandsleden to Byarum Church. These offer different ways to plan a hike: Munkaleden is defined by its length and the connection between Nydala and Byarum; Munkagårdsleden by the sequence of places and its route to the church. When choosing a route, you can first check which start and end points suit your plans.
Stage HÖ20 of Höglandsleden also offers a specific point of reference: there is access to the hiking trail at Hooks Herrgård, from where you can reach Byarum or Tomtabacken. An unmarked 1.6 km detour each way connects the main trail to Hok railway station. Train and bus connections are available there. When planning, take into account both the unmarked route and the distance in each direction; also check the timetables for your travel dates.
Nature, trails and relaxation
The Hok sub-area has extensive marshes, forests, trails, connecting routes and lakes. They offer opportunities for nature activities, exercise and relaxation. If you want to focus on lakes, forests and views, consider stage HÖ19 of Höglandsleden: it passes through varied Småland scenery, with shimmering lakes, deep forests and beautiful views.
There is a walking path along the Hokaån. At the Hokaån in Österskog, there are a barbecue area and a jetty. So, alongside the longer hiking trails, Hok also offers a walking path and specific spots by the water. Plan these nature activities according to your interests, without treating the information about the different trails and places as interchangeable.
Golf and historical points of interest
Hooks GK in Hok has two 18-hole golf courses: a park course and a forest course. If you include golf in your travel plans, you can choose between these two named course types. Both courses have the same number of holes; their names indicate the type of course.
Cultural and historical themes can also be included in your plans. The municipality’s cultural environment plan, adopted in 2023, designates Hoks järnbruk in Hok as industrial heritage. The main building of Hooks Herrgård was built in the late 1770s. The two details highlight different aspects: for Hoks järnbruk, the focus is its designation as industrial heritage; for Hooks Herrgård, it is the construction date of the main building.
Planning an overnight stay in Hok
Hoks naturcamping is a small, family-run campsite in a natural setting, about 2 km outside the village of Hok. This approximate location is a practical starting point for planning your stay: take it into account alongside the activities that matter to you. For hiking, the named routes and connections can help with day planning; for golf, the two courses at Hooks GK are a separate focus. This way, you can search for accommodation based on your planned activities and use the different distance details to guide your decisions.
