East of Aneby lies Hyllingen, a shallow bird lake with two birdwatching towers. One of the towers is wheelchair-accessible; a gravel path about 300 metres long leads there from the car park. If you want to focus on birds and scenery during an outing, Hyllingen combines this nature theme with clearly described access.
Forest, water and trails
Furulid, a woodland area close to town, lies just southeast of Aneby. The nature reserve has a floodlit running track and marked routes for running and mountain biking. Horse riding is permitted on designated roads and trails; there are also numerous unmarked paths. You’ll find car parks, shelters and barbecue areas at Danska sågen and by the football pitches on the edge of Aneby. At Lake Anebysjön, there are walking paths, a birdwatching tower, a floating bridge, a shelter and a barbecue area.
The routes around Aneby vary in length and surroundings. The Anebyleden is about 78 kilometres long and runs through the entire municipality; there are shelters and overnight cabins along the trail. At about seven kilometres, the Svartåleden is considerably shorter. It follows the Svartån through residential areas and green spaces in Aneby. If you’d rather cycle, you can choose the approximately 25-kilometre Ralången round trip, which combines varied nature and cultural experiences. Another route, about 16 kilometres long, follows walking and cycling paths in central Aneby and mostly forest roads and wider trails.
Public transport connections can also be incorporated into a trip: a detour of about 2.1 kilometres each way links the Smålandsleden at Stalpet with train and bus connections at Aneby Resecentrum.
Stalpet: waterfall and crafts
Stalpet is a 20-metre-high waterfall, described as the highest waterfall in southern Sweden. Near the start of the path leading to the waterfall, there are car parks, toilets and water; steps also lead down into the ravine. In addition to the waterfall, Stalpets Café and Hantverk serves coffee and pastries in the garden and sells local handicrafts in its craft shop.
Discover history and culture
Åsens by is open year-round and presents a landscape intended to show what the rural parts of Småland looked like around 1900. The open-air museum includes exhibitions and playgrounds; activities include courses in period crafts and traditional farming methods. The farm shop sells local products and handicrafts. The café serves homemade coffee and pastries as well as light meals.
At Aneby Church, the octagonal church interior is a striking feature of the building; it was inaugurated in 1997. An unusual outdoor baptismal font stands in front of the main entrance. A digital tour takes visitors around the church interior. Check whether it is available if you’d like to include it in your plans.
Aneby Folkets Park is an open, democratic meeting place for culture, entertainment and socialising. The library also combines services for visitors with a glimpse into everyday life in the town. Outside staffed opening hours, self-service access lets you borrow and return books, collect reserved books, read newspapers and use computers and the guest network. Each semester, the library also publishes a free programme of events, including children’s theatre and creative activities. The specific events vary each semester.
For a different kind of activity, Aneby’s Furulidsbadet is located by Furulidskolan. The swimming pool has changing rooms, a sauna and a 12.5-metre pool. The pool is suitable for swimming lessons and water aerobics.
