From Tölöberg, the view stretches across almost all of Kungsbacka to the sea and Kungsbackafjord. In the city centre, historic wooden houses and small cobbled streets shape the townscape. Expansive views and a compact town centre offer two very different impressions side by side.

Fjord, Coast and Nature Trails

The Kungsbackafjorden nature reserve encompasses around fifty islands and skerries. More than 240 bird species have been observed there over the years. Swimming and fishing are possible activities; the islands can be reached by boat. If you are planning a visit or a boat trip, check access arrangements in advance.

At Särö Västerskog, you can swim at a sandy beach, from cliffs or among boulders. Two signposted circular trails offer different distances: 1.4 and 3 kilometres. The area is home to rare sand lizards, smooth snakes and marsh fritillary butterflies. Vallda Sandö offers a different kind of coastal scenery, with gently sloping sandy beaches and rocks suitable for swimming; you can also watch birds and flowers. Many paths and tracks invite you to go for a walk, but there are no marked hiking trails.

Hanhals Holme is a bathing spot at the innermost end of Kungsbackafjorden, on the mainland. A long jetty, basic changing facilities and views of the sea and Onsala Peninsula define the place. At Utholmen, activities include swimming in salt water and beach volleyball; you can also rent kayaks and go crabbing there.

Routes through varied landscapes are also available by bike and on foot. Kattegattleden starts at Kungsbacka torg and follows Kungsbackafjord towards Onsalahalvön. Hallandsleden Kusten passes through Kungsbacka in four stages, taking you through forests, towns, countryside and coastal areas. Check the latest route information before setting off on a bike ride or hike.

City History and Culture

Discover public art in the city centre on a self-guided walk featuring sculptures and other artworks. Kunsthalle Kungsbacka hosts exhibitions by international, national and local artists, with a focus on contemporary art. Admission to all exhibitions is free; the programme changes. Kulturhuset Fyren also houses a library and a café.

Röda Stugan is Kungsbacka’s oldest building and offers a glimpse of what the town looked like before the fire of 1846. Röda Stugan serves Danish smørrebrød and fika; check whether it is currently open before visiting. A market with a long-standing tradition is held in the town centre on the first Thursday of every month. If you are planning to visit the market, check the latest date.

Tölö also brings together the present and the past: the area near the present-day church contains archaeological remains of a stave church dating from the 11th century. As early as the beginning of the 11th century, this area was developing into an important economic and political-religious centre. The view from Tölöberg adds a sweeping panorama of the town and its surroundings to this glimpse into history.

Nearby Attractions

Nearby Fjärås Bräcka is a glacial ridge that rises 60 metres above the Halland coastal plain. Naturum Fjärås Bräcka has exhibitions, activities and a café; check current visitor information before your visit. The nearby Limmahögsslingan starts at Naturum and crosses the heath to Limmahögarna. Also near Fjärås Bräcka is the Li burial ground, Halland’s largest Iron Age burial ground. It includes more than a hundred standing stones and around forty other remains.

At nearby Tjolöholms slott, landscapes and cultural history meet: the castle stands on a peninsula in Kungsbackafjord and is a cultural-historical setting unique in Sweden. Seven kilometres of carefully paved paths pass old oaks, coastal meadows, viewpoints, rocky beaches and deciduous forests. From Kungsbacka, bus 732 runs towards Frillesås; from the Torpa Smedja stop, continue on foot for about 3.5 kilometres. Check current connections before travelling.

Other routes explore historical and natural themes in different ways. Gällinge Kulturstig is about three kilometres long, partly follows forest tracks and is marked with numbered stops. Nearby Äskhult has four historic trails with colour-coded main routes and stops at places of historical or biological value. Even when the houses are closed, you can walk through the village and its surroundings.
