A stay in Klintehamn can be tailored to different experiences: hikes focused on nature or culture, the history of Klinte Church, or climbing at the adventure park. The trails differ in route and theme; at the park, you should also take ticket duration and seasonal opening hours into account.

Hiking: Forest, Herbs and Coastal Trail

The Pilgrimsleden Klinte–Fröjel is about 8 km long. Near Klinte Church, the trail passes through a beech forest. If you are lucky, you may spot the rare greater butterfly-orchid (Storsyssla); the trail is also rich in herbs and birdlife. This combines a specific distance with a variety of nature-related highlights, although sightings such as the orchid cannot be planned with certainty.

The Klinte and Fröjel Hembygdsled is a nature and cultural walk along the scenic coast between Fröjel Church and Klintehamn. Along the way, it passes several historic sites and memorials and goes through pastures where animals graze. Dogs must be kept on a leash on this trail. Its coastal route and historic stops give it a different focus from the forest, herbs and birdlife of the Pilgrimsleden.

Running and Mountain Biking Trails

Klintehamns motionsområde has two trails for different activities. Barkan is a 2.5 km lit trail for running and walking. The area also has a signposted 5 km mountain biking trail, designed for both younger and older cyclists. If you are looking for a shorter route for running or walking, Barkan is a separate option; the longer trail is intended for mountain biking.

Klinte Church: Construction in Stages

The present building of Klinte Church was built in the 12th and 13th centuries. In the 14th century, the sacristy, chancel and nave were replaced with Gothic structures. Around 1270, the church received its painted chancel vault; the triumphal cross was made in the 15th century. The building history therefore spans different periods: the building, Gothic structures and individual furnishings belong to different phases. For the cultural part of a stay, this sequence offers a specific insight into the church’s development.

Högt & Lågt Gotland: Ropes Courses and Getting There

The Högt & Lågt Gotland adventure park is just outside Klintehamn and has six obstacle courses at different heights and with different difficulty levels. A ticket is valid for three hours; during that time, you can climb on the courses as much as you like. Opening seasons vary. Before planning, check whether your preferred visit date falls within the opening period.

Bus line 10 is one option: it goes to the “Varvsholm” stop, from where it is a five-minute walk to the park. Check the current timetable before travelling, as route numbers and frequencies may change. Ticket duration and travel are therefore two separate planning considerations: climbing is subject to a three-hour time window, while travel depends on the current timetable.

Choose Accommodation to Match Your Day’s Plans

The Hembygdsled runs between Fröjel Church and Klintehamn; the Pilgrimsleden is listed as approximately 8 km long. Klintehamn is also the reference point for a visit to the park, while the adventure park is just outside town and can be reached via Varvsholm.
