Explore Alfta through distinctive cultural sites and clearly measured routes. Hälsingegård Ol-Anders combines a Hälsingehouse with museums about emigration and industry; Alfta also has a figurine museum in the old railway station building, historic buildings, and trails for hiking and mountain biking. This lets you choose whether to focus your stay on regional history, figurine worlds, or outdoor activities.
Hälsingegård Ol-Anders: architecture and museum themes
Hälsingegård Ol-Anders is a Hälsingehouse with Empire-style porches; its interior paintings from 1848 have been preserved in their original form. This brings together two distinct aspects: the design of the porches and an interior detail with a precise date. At the farm, Emigrantmuseet tells the story of the arduous journey of the Erikjansarna from Alfta to Bishop Hill; Industrihistoriska museet, by contrast, traces ÖSA’s development from a village blacksmith’s workshop to a world-leading forestry machinery company. An emigration journey and an industrial history thus sit side by side as distinct museum themes. Barnens Världsarv offers a creative workshop for children at Hälsingegård Ol-Anders. Ida Caroline also runs her workshop and shop there.
Figurines, local history, and other cultural sites
The Bobo och Gnuttarnas museum is located in Alfta’s old railway station building. It displays figurines, films, and information about Bobo and Gnuttarna. At Hälsingegård Ol-Anders, Hälgegården presents the life of Lars Mortimer as a cartoonist and creator of Hälge, Bobo, and Gnuttarna. The two attractions have different focuses: the museum in the railway station presents the figurine world through several media, while Hälgegården focuses on Mortimer’s life and work.
Alfta kyrkby och samhälle has extensive historic buildings around the church and along Långgatan. Jon-Lars in Långhed near Alfta is also part of the regional context; the farm is one of the seven Hälsingegårdarna World Heritage farms. Hälsingegård Löka in Gundbo is also associated with Alfta. It has a local history museum, a shop selling local handicrafts, and a café. Access is seasonal and by arrangement; visiting conditions may change.
