The shoreline at Lillfjärden is about 2.2 kilometres long and popular for walking and jogging. Galgberget has an orange-marked walking trail about 2.1 kilometres long. The approximate distances are similar, but the locations offer different highlights. Cultural attractions and historic sites add to the outdoor options.
Urban history and culture
Hälsinglands Museum in Hudiksvall is a cultural venue for exhibitions, talks, concerts and guided tours. Its programme therefore includes a range of cultural events. If a particular concert or guided tour is central to your visit, check the schedule in advance.
Jakobskyrkan is the oldest building in the city. Its foundation stones date from 1643, and the present-day church was consecrated in 1672. It is also connected to the city’s history in 1721: the church survived the Russian destruction of Hudiksvall and was largely the only building left standing in the burned-down city. This building thus offers a way to explore both early architectural history and a turning point in Hudiksvall’s history.
Fiskarstan is one of Hudiksvall’s best-preserved areas, broadening the perspective from individual historic buildings to an entire district. Fagerströms karamellfabrik offers another way to connect with local history. Emma Fagerström founded it in 1922, and visitors can experience how sweets are made there. A historic business and its production thus sit alongside the museum’s cultural themes and the city’s historic sites.
Walks, waterfront and forest
Lillfjärden is in the centre of Hudiksvall. Its shoreline is a popular route for walking and jogging, and is about 2.2 kilometres long. Fishing is also permitted there, provided you follow the applicable fishing regulations. If you plan to fish, check the local rules in advance.
Galgberget has a walking trail about 2.1 kilometres long, marked in orange. The markings provide clear guidance along this particular trail. Traces of quarries and the associated transport routes have also been preserved on the southern side of Galgberget. They form a distinct historic point of interest on the hill.
The forest types on Galgberget also vary by area: the northern slope has a spruce-dominated forest, the rocky summit has a pine forest, and the sunlit southern side is also covered in pine forest. These areas have very high nature values. The trail and the different forest areas are distinct features of Galgberget.
Hudiksvall’s waterfront promenade offers opportunities for walking and cycling from Kattvikskajen via Västra hamnen to Håstaholmen. If your plans depend on this route, check local conditions before setting out.
Activities for different interests
At Mulle Meck in Glada Hudik, children can be creative, use their curiosity and problem-solving skills, and tinker with real tools and all kinds of technical equipment. The focus is on hands-on exploration and practical work with technology. This makes it different from a visit focused on historic buildings or exhibitions. For children who enjoy exploring and making things, Mulle Meck offers a clear thematic experience.
