Tällberg combines views across Siljan with historic wooden houses and paths through natural areas. This gives you two distinct themes to consider when planning your trip: landscapes and architectural history. You can explore the village on foot, consider a longer cycling route or plan guided experiences, each with its own theme and duration.

Views of Siljan and Meadow Landscapes

From Tällberg, there are views across Siljan towards Sollerö socken, with Gesundaberget in view. Storängen, one of Dalarna’s most species-rich meadow landscapes, lies north of Majstångsplatsen. The two places represent different connections with nature: wide views across the lake and a species-rich meadow. The Digerberget viewpoint also offers views across Siljan.

Wooden Houses and the History of the Village

Holen has been designated a listed building since 1985. Gustaf Ankarcrona’s Dalarna Romantic-style artists’ home consists of old wooden houses from the Leksand area, set at different angles. Tällberg’s well-preserved wooden buildings, shaped by the Dalarna Romantic style, reflect the village’s transformation during the 20th century: from an agricultural village to a tourism hub in Leksand and Upper Dalarna.

The Kyrkbåthusen on the shores of Siljan in northwestern Tällberg illustrate another aspect of the area’s history. They are linked to historic boat traditions in the Siljan area and in Leksand. Together with Holen and the other wooden buildings, they show how different local landmarks are connected to the region’s history.

On Foot and by Bike

The seven-kilometre circular Tällberg runt trail passes Majstångsplatsen and goes through Digerberget Nature Reserve. There, the trail runs through old-growth forest. The loop offers a connection with nature alongside the views and historic village setting. The Digerberget viewpoint is another view of Siljan that you can consider as a separate landscape highlight.

A longer option is the 40-kilometre northern route of Leksandsturen, which passes through Tällberg. Along the way, it offers views as well as shops, cafés and restaurants. The distances give you two different scales to consider when planning: the seven-kilometre local loop and the considerably longer cycling route. The distances alone do not indicate how long either route takes to walk or cycle.

Crafts, Traditions and Guided Experiences

In summer, you can stroll among the shops and studios at Hantverksgården and meet local craftspeople. Tällbergs Hembygdsförening maintains traditions such as summer lekaftnar and klimpvälling in autumn, as well as celebrations for Walpurgis, the National Day, Midsummer and Lucia. These customs take place in different seasons and give the village’s cultural life several distinct themes.

Guided tours also vary in duration and difficulty. “Coffee, Fika and Nature Hike” lasts three hours and is moderate; book this tour in advance. The easy “Meet the Matz family” experience lasts four hours and is recommended for ages 16 and up. The guided tour is conducted in English.

The “Meteorite Expedition,” also four hours long, is an easy cultural experience through the landscape of the Siljan Geopark. It includes short hikes; the destination is called “Crater of Legends.” This guided tour is also conducted in English and should be booked in advance. The comparison can help you choose: a moderate three-hour nature hike versus two easy four-hour experiences with different themes.

The seasonal “Midsummer Fun & Traditions” experience lasts two hours and is easy. It focuses on flowers, folklore and Swedish flavours. Check the dates for your travel period and book in advance.

Swimming Area on Siljan

There is a sheltered swimming area on Siljan at the campsite in the village. Its shallow sandy bottom and bathing jetty are specific features for anyone who wants to include a swimming spot in their trip plans alongside trails and cultural experiences.
