The Sölvesborg Bridge is 760 metres long. This bridge for pedestrians and cyclists crosses Sölvesborgsviken and connects the town centre more closely with the Listerlandet peninsula. Paths above the water and the bay’s birdlife meet at the bridge. Discoveries in Sölvesborg also range from medieval streets and traces of a monastery to public art.

Bridge, Bay and Birdlife

The Sölvesborgsviken nature reserve, an important place for outdoor recreation, can also be reached via the Sölvesborg Bridge. The bay is important for overwintering waterbirds and for breeding wetland and reedbed birds. Different groups of birds therefore play a role here at different times of year. On the bridge, you can go for a walk, cycle, watch birds and the landscape, fish and have a coffee.

Medieval Traces and Architectural History

The medieval street network around Stortorget has been preserved. St Nicolai Church is Sölvesborg’s only surviving medieval building. Traces of the Carmelite monastery, founded in 1486, can be seen north of the church. Sölvesborg Castle ruins also date back to the 13th century. The castle was the largest and most important medieval fortification in eastern Denmark.

A later chapter in the town’s architectural history is Listers Härads Tingshus. Gunnar Asplund designed the building, which was constructed between 1917 and 1921. A listed building in the Nordic Classicism style, it provides a different contrast to the medieval traces. The Borre Museum in the Tingshus displays works by Bror “Borre” Carlström, a woodcarver, satirical artist and local character. Sölvesborg Museum is also housed in a historic building: a former grain and spirits warehouse dating from the first half of the 19th century. It opened as a museum in 1982.

Art in the Town and Killebom

A digital art trail takes you around Sölvesborg’s public art and architecture. On the tree walk, a digital map leads to unusual trees in the town centre. Elskåpskonst is Sölvesborg’s first walk-through street art exhibition. These offerings draw attention to art and distinctive features of the town, while its historic buildings offer another perspective on the town.

Comparing Walking and Cycling Routes

Sölvesborgsleden is an approximately 8-kilometre walking trail that passes several sights. It also connects several nature reserves and recreation areas in the western part of the municipality. The Cykelled Listerlandet cycle route starts in Sölvesborg and passes several recreation areas and nature reserves. It is approximately 45 kilometres long. The different distances offer a concrete comparison of route length: an approximately 8-kilometre walking trail versus a roughly 45-kilometre cycling route.

The 1.3-kilometre Sölvesborg Flowtrail runs on Ryssberget. The mountain bike trail features jumps and bends and is intended for children and adults, from beginners to elite riders. Sölvesborg Pumptrack can be used with mountain bikes, BMX bikes, balance bikes, scooters, inline skates and skateboards.

You can fish for rainbow trout at Grundsjön. There are floating jetties around the lake, as well as an accessible jetty with a railing around it. Before fishing, check the applicable season and permit requirements. Sölvesborg has an 18-hole golf course and a nine-hole course overlooking Sölvesborgsviken. The nine-hole course is available as a pay-and-play course, with no requirement for a golf proficiency card; equipment and balls can be rented. Check current rental options in advance.
