In Venta Del Moro, walking trails in Hoces del Cabriel Nature Park meet wine culture and local traditions. The municipality of Venta del Moro encompasses the entire Hoces. Along the Río Cabriel, cliffs, winding rock walls and distinctive rock pinnacles shape the landscape. There are also specific ways to explore the area’s culture and wine, from the parish church of Nuestra Señora de Loreto to tastings and festivals featuring regional products.

Hiking and experiencing the Río Cabriel

On the Valencian left bank of the Río Cabriel, Hoces del Cabriel lies entirely within the municipality of Venta Del Moro. The PR-CV 344 starts at the Fuente la Oliva recreation area, enters the Hoces and passes through the Hoz de Vicente. It is a circular hiking trail of geological and environmental interest. The nature park also has the blue Venta del Moro–Puente de Vadocañas route. Check the current condition of the trails before setting out on a hike.

Venta Del Moro is also home to the nature park’s information centre, which can help you orient yourself. The exhibition focuses on the Río Cabriel and its ecosystem. If you plan to visit, it is best to check visiting arrangements before you travel. The river landscape features impressive cliffs and winding rock walls; eagles and other birds of prey live around the distinctive rock pinnacles.

Activities offered around the Río Cabriel include canoeing, kayaking, river SUP, rafting and canyoning, as well as trekking and cycling on road and mountain bike routes. These activities offer different ways to spend time by the river and in the landscape. Check with providers separately about availability and conditions before planning a specific activity.

Churches, wine cellars and local traditions

The parish church of Nuestra Señora de Loreto in Venta Del Moro has the status of a Bien de Relevancia Local (Local Heritage Asset). The municipality’s cultural heritage also includes numerous underground cellars attached to houses, traditionally used to make and store wine. In the historic centre is Jaime Latorre’s restored small cave cellar, on Calle Huertos. It dates from the mid-19th century.

Two traditions offer different opportunities throughout the year: the Mayos take place on the night of 30 April and include musical processions through the town. The Judas tradition is observed on Easter Sunday. For this occasion, the Quintos make a figure out of cloth and straw, which is hung from the church tower. If you would like to plan your trip around either tradition, check the dates in advance.

Wine and regional cuisine

Bodega Neleman in Casas del Rey, in Venta Del Moro and in Hoces del Cabriel Nature Park, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, is organic and vegan. It offers seasonal vineyard visits and wine tastings throughout the year. Confirm availability directly before your trip. This lets you include wine in your travel plans without conflating seasonal vineyard visits with tastings offered year-round.

Wine also takes centre stage during the summer festivities in August: at the Certamen de Vinos y Exhibición Gastronómica, visitors can taste regional wines and dishes. Dates and event arrangements may vary, so check them before you travel. Alongside Bodega Neleman’s wine experiences, this creates a distinct culinary focus, while walking trails, churches and traditions reveal other sides of the destination.
