The Magro forms a river bend around Real De Montroi. Cultural highlights include the parish church, Castell dels Alcalans and local folklore. When planning your trip, you can decide whether the river landscape or the town’s history will shape your stay.

On the Magro: River and Huerta

Water from the Magro River is used to irrigate the huerta of Real De Montroi. The river bend and the irrigation show two different sides of the same landscape theme: the shape of the river and its use for the huerta. In Real De Montroi, areas along the Magro riverbed are also part of protected areas. If you plan activities there, check the boundaries of these areas beforehand.

Local History and Folklore

The parish church of Sant Pere Apòstol is located on Calle Mayor, in the northern and oldest part of the town centre; it was built in 1587. The year it was built gives the church a specific place in the town’s history. The remains of Castell dels Alcalans are preserved on the upper part of a hill. The castle was built by Muslims. The church and the castle thus offer different historical themes: a church building with a recorded date and the story of a castle’s construction.

Folklore is also part of the town’s character. In Real De Montroi, the Ball de la plaça is preserved as a traditional dance; it features a torch in the centre. If you want to focus on local folklore rather than exclusively on historic buildings, you can plan to make this dance a particular point of interest.

Festivities and Hiking Route to the Castle

The patron saint festivities take place in early July and are dedicated to the Apostle Peter. The celebrations include a procession made entirely by hand and organised by the residents themselves. If you want to plan your trip around the festivities, check the exact dates in advance.

A hiking route to Castell dels Alcalans, recorded in June 2020, starts on Calle ParaĂso. For almost two kilometres, it follows the banks of the Magro and meets the markers for the short PR-CV 457 hiking trail there. The route continues along the riverbank to Cova Fumada. From there, you have to retrace your steps for a short distance before beginning the ascent to Castell dels Alcalans. The return section and the subsequent ascent are part of the route as described. Trail conditions and markings may change; check both before setting out.

Getting There by Bus

A municipal mobility plan from 2023 mentions the interurban València–Real–Millares bus route and bases its information on passenger data from 2019–2020. If you are planning to travel by bus, check the current timetable before your trip.
