Náquera can be explored through a range of hiking destinations, from short walks to a longer circular route. The selection includes a trail of under one kilometre and the Ruta del Salt PR-CV-329, which is more than ten kilometres long. There are also viewpoints, a monumental tree and traces of the town’s history. When planning, it is worth checking the route, difficulty level and estimated duration, as the trails offer different experiences.
Hiking trails among ravines and viewpoints
The Ruta Satarenya is about 4 kilometres long, has a low difficulty level and takes approximately 1 hour and 10 minutes. It starts at Paseo de las Delicias, on the road from Náquera to Serra. The route crosses the Satarenya area and follows the ravine of the same name. Local trail conditions may vary.
The Ruta Creueta covers 4.2 kilometres, has a medium difficulty level and takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes to walk. On Mount Pinar, the route reaches La Creueta at an altitude of 430 metres, offering expansive views. Compared with Satarenya, Creueta is a similar length, but is described as having a different difficulty level and a slightly longer estimated duration.
For a longer circuit, consider the Ruta del Salt PR-CV-329: it is 10.53 kilometres long, has a low to medium difficulty level and takes around 3 hours and 10 minutes. The circular route follows the Barranco del Salt and heads back towards Náquera on the return leg. It also leads to the Fenassar viewpoint and parador, which is associated with impressive views. The route passes the Pi del Salt, a monumental pine classified as a tree of local interest.
The shorter routes also differ in duration and intended use. The Ruta Penya Roja is a 1-kilometre walking trail with a low difficulty level; the estimated duration is about one hour. From the summit of Penya Roja, views extend across the comarca, the Gulf of Valencia, the Valencia plain and the surrounding mountain ranges. The Fuente del Oro route is 890 metres long, has a low difficulty level and takes 40 minutes in total. Given its distance, it is intended for bicycles or horses.
History and architecture in Náquera
The Posiciones defensivas Cabeç Bord is an outdoor educational museum dedicated to the military architecture of the Spanish Civil War. Republican troops built the defensive positions in mid-1938 in connection with the offensive on Valencia. They served as an advanced base in the final defensive line protecting the city. From Náquera, the drive follows the Camí de la Patà; this is followed by an approximately 3-kilometre gravel track leading to a car park. From there, continue on foot. Road conditions may vary.
The religious buildings also illustrate different periods of construction. The parish church of Nuestra Señora de la Encarnación dates back to the 18th century and was completed in 1757. The present Ermita de San Francisco de Asís was built in 1912, rebuilt about a decade later after collapsing, and designed in the Neo-Gothic style. The present-day Calvario was laid out between the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Its 14 stations are made of tiles and glazed roof tiles.
In the town centre, narrow streets preserve the medieval layout, and several remains of it have been discovered. Villas dating from the late 19th century are preserved in the La Carrasca area. They represent early second homes and feature elements of Modernism, and in some cases Art Deco. Check locally whether individual villas are accessible.
