Mislata brings together art venues, historic buildings, green spaces and festival traditions. For culture enthusiasts, the Casa Taller of the Fundació Miquel Navarro and sites from different architectural periods are highlights; outdoors, La Canaleta and a public green space near Pou del Quint offer other attractions. Festivals add performing arts and local festival traditions. Depending on your interests and the event dates, your stay can have a different focus.

Art and events

In the Morería neighbourhood, in Mislata’s historic centre, the Casa Taller of the Fundació Miquel Navarro is a museum and a versatile building complex. It is located in the historic studio where Miquel Navarro worked for more than 40 years. The artist donated more than 400 works to the Casa Taller. Its permanent exhibition includes sculptures, photographs, paintings, specialist publications and medium-sized works. The building is also designed to host temporary exhibitions and events that bring education, culture and art together.

The Biennal de Mislata Miquel Navarro is an initiative for contemporary art that builds on the “Vila de Mislata” sculpture and painting biennials held from 1985 to 2008. Its first edition took place in 2016. The biennial supports visual art projects by emerging artists from different regions. Themes and public exhibition dates vary with each edition; if you want to visit a specific exhibition, check the relevant calendar.

Mislata Art al Carrer, or MAC for short, also brings the performing arts to the city’s streets. The recurring festival was founded more than ten years ago. Venues and programmes vary with each edition, so it is worth checking the latest dates before travelling.

La Canaleta and green spaces

The Ruta botánica de La Canaleta runs through the central area of Parque de La Canaleta and is 1 km long. It can be accessed through the park’s three main entrances; along the route, information panels with QR codes provide information about the plant life. Visitors can learn about the characteristics of 21 tree species and 23 shrub species. As access arrangements may change, check them before your visit.

Parc de La Canaleta also has a picnic area with paella grills. Parc Infantil de Trànsit La Canaleta has a bicycle and go-kart circuit with traffic lights and road signs. The area is used for education and recreation by schools and families. Sports facilities at the La Canaleta complex include tennis courts, facilities for frontón, pádel, futsal and skateboarding, athletics facilities and artificial-turf football pitches. The complex also has an outdoor summer swimming pool; its use is seasonal. Individual facilities and access rules may change, so check current arrangements before planning a specific visit.

A 10,000 m² public green and recreational area, created in 2021, is located near the protected surroundings of Pou del Quint and the municipal gardens. The green space next to Pou del Quint has fully accessible paths, picnic tables and an agility park for pets. As these facilities may change, it is advisable to check the current conditions before your visit.

Historic sites and regional festival culture

Mislata’s architectural history can also be traced through sites from different periods: the Iglesia de la Virgen de los Ángeles is the city’s oldest church and dates from the 18th century. La Cruz del término dates from the 15th century and marks the boundary between Valencia and Mislata. The Convent de la Mare de Deu al Peu de la Creu was built in the mid-20th century; it has a contemporary design and a single-nave layout.

The public entrance to the Museo de Historia de Valencia is at C/ Valencia 42 in Mislata. The museum lists EMT city buses, Metrovalencia and tourist buses as transport connections. Check the current address and connections before your visit.

The Fiestas Patronales y Populares de Mislata are organised by the city’s two Clavarías and held in honour of the Virgen de los Ángeles and the Santísimo Cristo de la Fe. Festivities include Moros y Cristianos, large paellas, fireworks and processions; the specific programme and dates vary from year to year. Regional cuisine includes paella, arrós amb fesols i naps, arròs a banda and arròs negre, which are part of the traditions of the communities of l’Horta. In a region known for Xufa, classic Valencian Orxata and Fartons are also part of Mislata’s culinary tradition.
