Cheste offers plenty of reasons to explore: visitors can ride their own motorbikes on the racetrack at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo, while Graffitea brings street art together at several locations around the municipality. Other attractions include a historic chapel, a local walking route and La Lomiquia Park. What interests you can help shape your plans, from motorsport and culture to nature and wine.
Plan for motorsport and hiking
During public motorcycle track sessions, you can ride your own motorcycle on the Circuit Ricardo Tormo. Dates may change, so check the latest schedule. The racetrack is located on the A3 Valencia–Madrid, exit 334, at 46380 Cheste (Valencia), Spain. Before travelling, also check for any event-related restrictions.
Another way to plan time outdoors is to take the local SL-CV 77 Sendero del Barranco Hondo hiking trail. It is 10.20 kilometres long, with a theoretical walking time of three hours. Quality control is subject to conditions, and trail conditions may change. Check the trail status before your hike. The stated time is a theoretical estimate, not the duration of every individual hike.
Parkland and wildlife
Parque de La Lomiquia lies on the edge of the municipality. It was created by ecologically restoring a degraded site that had previously been used as a landfill. The park covers more than 55,000 square metres; paths run through it, providing access to a variety of natural features. Check access conditions on site.
Mallards, teal and frogs find food, water or shelter at the pond. Those interested in landscapes and wildlife will find a different focus here than on the hiking trail: the park centres on the restored site and its pond, while the SL-CV 77 is about the longer route and its theoretical walking time.
Street art, town route and architectural history
Graffitea is an urban art project supported by the Culture Department of Cheste Town Council. More than 100 interventions of artistic merit feature in the project, which is described as an open-air museum; murals can be found at various locations around the municipality. The programme also includes talks, discussion sessions, screenings and practical workshops. Graffitea takes place regularly, but the programme varies from one edition to the next. Check the dates and programme details for the relevant events before your visit.
The Ruta Urbana passes through the town centre, taking in emblematic buildings and places. At some stops, short information panels provide additional details. The Ermita de la Virgen de la Soledad is a chapel with its own architectural history: the Neoclassical chapel was built on the site of an older 16th-century temple. The Iglesia Parroquial de San Lucas Evangelista, meanwhile, features several chapels and interesting sculptures.
Festivals and Muscatel
The Fiesta de la Vendimia is celebrated in honour of the patron saint, San Lucas Evangelista, and in gratitude for the harvest. The programme begins with the PisĂ de la uva and includes, among other events, bull runs with horses, rural bull runs, processions and folk dances. As dates and programmes may change from year to year, check the details for your intended travel dates.
FIVAMOS also celebrates Muscatel. Held annually, the event includes presentations and tastings of typical products, wine tastings, food pairings and visits to the participating municipalities of Chiva, Godelleta and Cheste. The host municipality and event dates vary from one edition to the next. So check the information for the specific event before planning your visit around it.
