A trinquet and routes to Creueta del PenyĂł give Abdet two distinct sides: local history and hiking. There are also festivals held at set times of year and natural attractions with varying conditions. When planning your trip, it is worth distinguishing between village culture, longer hikes and weather-dependent scenery.

Local History and Traditions

The Church of San Vicente Ferrer is part of the centre of L’Abdet, which is characterised by narrow streets. The streetscape and the church give a tangible impression of the village. Another glimpse into the history of everyday life is the Lavadero de L’Abdet: this restored washhouse was once used by the community and is about 200 metres from the village centre.

The Trinquet de L’Abdet dates back to 1772 and is one of the oldest trinquet courts in the Comunitat Valenciana. The Valencian pelota variant known as “pilota grossa” is also played in Abdet. The balls used in this game are larger than a tennis ball; they are sewn by hand and have a core made of cloth and goatskin.

Festivals Throughout the Year

A festival in honour of San Vicente Ferrer is held in L’Abdet every year during the last week of Easter. The annual summer festivities in honour of the Virgen de las Dolores follow on the third weekend of August. These two periods provide different seasonal markers in the festival calendar. If you are planning your trip around one of the festivals, check the specific event dates in advance.

Hikes and High-Altitude Destinations

Creueta del Penyó crowns L’Abdet. A large cross stands at its summit, with views stretching far across the surrounding area. A cave lies halfway up the ascent. The route therefore combines a prominent destination with another named point along the way, without assuming a particular hiking time.

The hiking routes listed for L’Abdet include the Circular de Mela. Other routes lead towards Confrides and Beniardà. For the challenging circular hike from L’Abdet to Pla de la Casa, at an altitude of 1,385 metres, a route description from March 2025 gives a distance of 16.3 kilometres, an elevation gain of 960 metres and an estimated duration of six to seven hours. As trail conditions can change, it is advisable to check the current state of the route before setting out.

L’Abdet can be reached from Confrides on foot or by car.

Gorges and Scenery

The natural attractions also vary considerably. The Font de l’Arbre recreation area is within the municipality of Confrides, in the Sierra de Aitana at an altitude of about 1,200 metres, and forms part of routes PR-CV20 and PR-CV21. In the area of the Barranco del Fanalic, during rainy periods the river plunges through the gorge as a waterfall. This waterfall therefore depends on rainfall.

The Pericos cave extends over more than 1,000 square metres and has both narrow passages and large galleries. The Barranco del Sord is one of the most frequently visited gorges in the Confrides and L’Abdet area. Another gorge in the area is the Barranco del Llop. Together, these landscape features range from water flows that depend on the weather to different cave formations and the area’s gorges.
