Yecla offers a range of highlights for your trip: a protected landscape with prehistoric rock paintings, religious art and festivals, as well as regional dishes and sweets. These themes appeal to different interests, spanning nature and history, wine and gastronomic traditions.

Landscape and early visual records

Monte Arabí is a protected landscape in Yecla, with unique rock formations, caves and prehistoric rock paintings. The paintings also give the landscape a cultural and historical dimension. If you are interested in the connection between landscapes and early visual records, Monte Arabí offers a distinct highlight alongside the city’s festivals and museums.

Festivals, religious art and history

The Fiestas patronales in honour of the Purísima Concepción hold the official title “Fiesta de Interés Turístico Internacional” (International Tourist Interest Festival). The distinction was awarded by BOE Resolution BOE-A-2024-25440, published on 5 December 2024. The Festival de Jazz also takes place in September. Check the dates for your travel year if you would like to plan your stay around them.

The Semana Santa de Yecla also offers a specific insight into religious tradition: more than 80 religious images take part in eleven processions. At the heart of the Santuario del Castillo is the image of the Purísima Concepción, a work by sculptor Miguel Torregrosa from 1941. The sanctuary also houses the Capilla del Santísimo Cristo del Sepulcro. Its urn contains the image of the city’s patron saint, Cristo Yacente, which is venerated there.

The Museo Arqueológico Municipal “Cayetano de Mergelina” covers four historical periods in its presentation focused on Yecla. This gives local cultural themes a broader historical context, without limiting your visit to individual festival days. A large part of the artistic heritage of the Semana Santa de Yecla can be seen year-round at the Museo de Semana Santa in the Iglesia Vieja.

Regional cuisine and wine

Yecla’s gastronomic identity includes gazpacho yeclano, gachasmigas and potato empanadas. Sweets include Panes Benditos de San Blas and Libricos. The Empanada de Yecla has another distinctive feature: its recipe and preparation have been passed down from generation to generation. This traditional local food is part of the area’s traditional, cultural and gastronomic heritage.

The Ruta del Vino de Yecla includes, among other activities, winery visits, wine tastings and oenology courses. These offer different ways to explore wine: visiting wineries, tasting wines and studying oenology. Check participating businesses and booking conditions before your trip if you have a specific experience in mind.
