Molina De Segura brings together evidence of the town’s Andalusian history, collections on life in the Huerta and an important wetland. Two themes stand out in particular: the historic Barrio del Castillo and the waterbirds of the Lagunas de Campotéjar. There are also landscape and themed routes that reveal other aspects of the town.

Cultural history in the Barrio del Castillo and beyond

The MUDEM preserves and presents the remains of Molina de Segura’s Andalusian town wall, the Andalusian Hisn Mulina, which were unearthed in 2004. The Museo Horno del Concejo y Casa del Folclore offers a different historical perspective: it is housed in a 17th- to 18th-century building in the vernacular architectural style in the Barrio del Castillo. The museum includes a Moorish oven, which has been documented since 1491. In addition to breadmaking, it also explores the folk music and dances of Molina.

The Barrio del Castillo is also the setting for the Molina Medieval route, which passes through the neighborhood and brings eight centuries of history to life. This allows local history and the neighborhood’s architecture to be considered as related themes, without equating the route itself with a museum visit. Entre Chimeneas offers another historical perspective: the Ayuntamiento regularly organizes a guided tour of former factory sites in Molina de Segura. If you plan to join this tour, check the announced dates.

The Museo Etnográfico Carlos Soriano focuses on traditional clothing from the 18th and 19th centuries, as well as miniatures of equipment used in the Huerta and in traditional water management. The Centro La Albarda de Ritos y Tradiciones del Campo de Molina presents the traditional ways of life of the Campo de Molina. These include both its geographical diversity and traditional life, as well as human impact on the environment and its contribution to preserving ecosystems. Together, these institutions turn the spotlight on different scales, from clothing and equipment to ways of life and landscapes.

The Zoco de Guadalabiad also brings together crafts and hands-on learning: the craft market includes workshops and live demonstrations. Alongside the museums and the route through the Barrio del Castillo, it forms a cultural profile that places historical evidence, everyday objects and traditional practices side by side.

Lagoons, waterbirds and outdoor trails

The Lagunas de Campotéjar are an internationally important wetland that attracts numerous waterbird species. These include endangered species, as well as the critically endangered white-headed duck and marbled duck. A 1.105-kilometer nature trail allows you to walk around the lagoons. The Centro de Información y Acogida a Visitantes Lagunas de Campotéjar complements this natural area with information and explanations about the lagoons’ environmental value, waterbirds and protected species. Nature watching and background information offer two different ways to experience the same wetland.

The Parque Ecológico Vicente Blanes offers public leisure facilities, an arboretum, a camping area and landscaped paths. These include a birdwatching point and the La Loma and Lúgar viewpoints. Unlike the Lagunas de Campotéjar, this park offers several features of an ecological park, while the lagoons focus on the wetland and its waterbirds.

Routes and ways to explore

The Vía Verde del Noroeste also connects Molina de Segura to a wider historical route: from Molina, it forms the final stretch of the Camino de Levante pilgrimage route, which ends at the Holy City of Caravaca de la Cruz. The Campus de Espinardo–Alguazas section passes through Ribera de Molina and Torrealta on its way to Molina de Segura and runs parallel to the Río Segura. This describes both the course of a specific section and its place within the pilgrimage route.

When planning your stay, you can choose your focus according to what you would like to discover: the museums, Molina Medieval and Entre Chimeneas explore history and culture, while the Lagunas de Campotéjar and Parque Ecológico Vicente Blanes offer different perspectives on nature, water and wildlife watching.
