The Palacio del Infante Don Luis and a forest area of more than 700 hectares give Boadilla del Monte two very different focal points: protected architectural and garden heritage, and Mediterranean holm oak woodland. Other attractions include historic churches, an art exhibition, and trails for hiking and cycling. When planning your accommodation, it is therefore worth first deciding whether you want to focus on sightseeing, nature, or both.
Palace, Gardens and Historic Town Center
The Palacio del Infante Don Luis was the residence of Infante Don Luis from 1765 to 1776. Its Italian-inspired gardens include more than 10,000 boxwood plants in the parterre. The gardens have been restored using the original plant species. The palace and gardens, with their fountains, bridges and kitchen gardens, are protected as a Bien de Interés Cultural.
The area around the palace also includes a variety of buildings and open spaces, including a poultry house, gardens, fountains, bridges, kitchen gardens and a park. The historic area covers a large part of Boadilla del Monte’s town center. Those interested in the town’s history can therefore explore not only the palace but also its landscaped surroundings.
Convent, Church and Chapel
Another historical landmark is the Antiguo Convento de las Carmelitas Descalzas, founded in 1670. Together with the Palacio del Infante Don Luis, it is protected as a Bien de Interés Cultural in the category of a Historic-Artistic Complex. The two buildings represent different periods in the town’s history: the convent’s founding date is as tangible as the period when the Infante lived at the palace.
The Iglesia de San Cristóbal is a 13th-century Mudéjar church. It has three naves and a bell tower on a solid base. The Ermita de San Sebastián has a different architectural form: this 17th-century chapel is cube-shaped and built of brick and rammed earth.
Art and Guided Tours
The Sala de Arte de la Ciudad Financiera hosts an exhibition from the Banco Santander collection, featuring more than 200 works. It offers an overview of art history from the 16th century to the present day. The exhibition thus complements the historic buildings with a different perspective on cultural history: rather than focusing on a single place or period, it spans several centuries.
Guided tours of the Palacio del Infante Don Luis and the municipality’s historical heritage are also available in Boadilla del Monte. Tickets for these tours must be purchased in advance. Check the dates before planning your visit so you can fit a tour in with your other plans.
Forest, Trails and Environmental Education
Boadilla del Monte’s forest area covers more than 700 hectares and consists mainly of Mediterranean holm oak woodland. If you want to balance the cultural side of your stay with time outdoors, you’ll find various hiking and cycling routes there. Hiking and cycling offer two different ways to explore the forest.
The Aula Medioambiental offers another perspective on the local ecosystem, where visitors can learn about its distinctive features.
Planning Your Journey and Accommodation
When choosing a hotel, it helps to first identify your priorities, then compare the specific address with your planned visits and travel arrangements. Metro Ligero Line 3 runs between Colonia JardĂn and Puerta de Boadilla. Stops on the line include Boadilla Centro, Infante Don Luis and Puerta de Boadilla. You can use these names as reference points when planning your trip.
