Parque Europa: Monuments and Outdoor Activities
At 233,000 m², Parque Europa is the largest green space and leisure complex in Torrejón De Ardoz. The complex combines replicas of 18 European monuments with an original fragment of the Berlin Wall. Admission is free; additional concession-operated activities may incur a charge. If you want to include well-known European landmarks and a large green space in the same itinerary, you can find both here in one location.
The complex includes the Fuente Cibernética, with a water, light and sound show. It runs seasonally. If the performance is important to your visit, check the current schedule before travelling.
City History and Local Traditions
The Museo de la Ciudad traces the area’s history from its first settlers, who established themselves there around 5000 BC, to the present day. The third floor hosts temporary exhibitions related to the city or featuring artists from Torrejón De Ardoz. The museum offers theatrical and non-theatrical guided tours of its facilities; check the current booking arrangements in advance. In addition to the museum’s permanent focus, visitors can choose temporary exhibitions and different guided-tour formats as separate highlights.
The Casa-Museo Gigantes y Cabezudos has a more specific focus: it permanently displays the figures of the Comparsa de Gigantes y Cabezudos de Torrejón de Ardoz and explains how a giant figure is built and danced. The Comparsa currently consists of 7 giants, 5 big-head figures and a banner related to the city’s history.
Semana Santa also offers a way to explore the history of Torrejón De Ardoz. The Cofradía de la Bula del Santísimo Sacramento was already organising processions there in the 16th century; the celebration became firmly established in the 18th century. On 13 March 2014, Semana Santa was recognised as a Festival of Regional Tourist Interest. One of the highlighted floats is “El Calvario”. It carries images of Christ and La Dolorosa, dated to the 16th or 17th century.
Festivals and Seasonal Events
The Fiestas Populares take place in June. The Fiestas Patronales are celebrated on the first weekend of October in honour of the city’s patron saint, Virgen del Rosario; the exact dates vary from year to year. Mágicas Navidades is another seasonal event, held at the Torrejón De Ardoz fairgrounds. Covering more than 100,000 m², it features lights, shows and attractions for all ages. The event includes an ice rink on a lake. The programme and availability of individual features may change from one edition to the next, so check the dates and ice rink availability before travelling.
When choosing your travel dates, it makes a difference whether you mainly want to experience Parque Europa and the city’s history or are travelling for a particular festival or seasonal show. June and the first weekend of October are the time windows for the two municipal festivals; the Fuente Cibernética show and Mágicas Navidades have their own seasonal programmes.
