Quintanilla De Onésimo can be explored through water engineering, river crossings and wine production. The Canal del Duero, the Renaissance bridge and the offerings at Finca Villacreces each provide a different focus. You can choose the emphasis of your trip based on whether you are interested in the use of water, architectural and local history, or winemaking.

The Duero, Canal and Riverbanks

The Canal del Duero begins in Quintanilla De Onésimo. It was built to supply water to the province of Valladolid and today is used exclusively for irrigation. It clearly illustrates the difference between its original purpose and its current use.

Playa La Pesquera is a small bathing area on the Duero below the Renaissance bridge; you can reach it on foot via a small pedestrian bridge. Check accessibility locally again before your visit. Swimming is currently prohibited there because the area is not equipped for it. Fishing is mentioned as a possible activity.

Renaissance Bridge and Historic Buildings

The Renaissance bridge connects Quintanilla De Onésimo with Olivares de Duero. It is the only crossing over the Duero between Tudela and Peñafiel. The first documented reference to the bridge dates from the end of the 15th century; on February 17, 1494, the Catholic Monarchs issued a commission concerning it.

The Ermita de San Roque provides a different historical perspective. It is a single-nave stone building with a dome dating from the 17th century. According to the visitation book, the hermitage already existed in the 16th century. Its features include a 17th-century altarpiece and an early 16th-century polychrome walnut crucifix. An early mention, 17th-century architecture and an older work of art can all be seen here side by side.

The Iglesia parroquial de San Millán has a different building history: it was probably begun in the early 16th century on the site of a smaller Romanesque church. In 1958, more than half of the historic church building collapsed; only the apse remains. Thus, a Romanesque predecessor, the probable start of construction and the later turning point of 1958 form a sequence in time.

Wine Production and Nature

The Parque de la Arquitectura del Vino comprises traditional structures associated with viticulture and wine: a guardaviñas (vineyard watchtower), an underground wine cellar, a farmhouse hut, a well and a small museum. Rather than representing wine-growing architecture through a single building, its various elements showcase several types of structure.

The Encina de las Tres Matas adds a natural feature to this architectural perspective. Its natural hollow provides shelter for numerous arthropods, birds and mammals. While the park focuses on structures associated with wine, this site is about the habitat created by the hollow.

Finca Villacreces offers a visitor experience that includes a walk through the vineyards, an explanation of the entire winemaking process and a concluding wine tasting. Bicycle tours of the estate are also available, with an outdoor picnic option. The activities have different emphases: one combines vineyards, production and tasting, while the other pairs a bike ride with an optional picnic. Check the arrangements again before booking.
