Anyone wishing to combine nature and activity in Saucelle can choose from viewpoints, a botanical and ornithological trail, and longer hikes. The viewpoints offer different perspectives on sections of the river landscape; the Las Lavanderas trail also features botanical and ornithological information. The routes also span a clear range: from a short circular trail to a GR-14 stage with a walking time of almost five hours.

Viewpoints with Different Perspectives

At the Mirador del Salto de Saucelle, there are sweeping views of the valley where the Huebra River flows into the Duero. The viewpoint is on the road connecting Saucelle with Salto de Saucelle. Its facilities include seating, interpretive landscape murals, and an area suitable for parking cars.

The Picón del Moro offers a different perspective. The viewpoint consists of a large balcony on a granite outcrop; from there, you can look out over the Duero between the Saucelle dam and the La Barca de Vilvestre landing stage. It is on the road leading downhill from Saucelle to Salto de Saucelle, about six kilometres from the town. While the valley at the confluence is the focus at the Mirador del Salto, the view from Picón del Moro extends over the stretch of river between these two named points.

Hiking: From a Circular Trail to a GR-14 Stage

The Las Lavanderas botanical and ornithological circular trail is just over one kilometre long and follows narrow, easy paths. An interpretive audio recording explains local botanical and ornithological species. The trail thus combines activity with themes that also draw attention to the natural character of the surrounding area.

The accessible Mirador de Las Janas ornithological viewpoint is 1,800 metres from the start of the Las Lavanderas trail. It has an access road and a car park. This distance provides a specific reference point for planning; however, the viewpoint is described as a separate location and is not identified as a stop on the circular trail.

For a longer hike, the Senda del Duero (GR-14) passes through Saucelle on its way from Mieza and Vilvestre, then continues towards Lumbrales. The GR-14 stage from Saucelle to Hinojosa de Duero is 21 kilometres long and takes about 4 hours and 50 minutes. Compared with Las Lavanderas, this is a considerably longer route option; the stated walking time applies to this stage. You can therefore choose your hiking day based on the distance you want to cover, without treating the short circular trail and the longer stage as equivalent.

San Lorenzo: A Festival Tradition in August

On 10 August, Saucelle celebrates its patron saint, San Lorenzo, with a festival that usually lasts about five days. It includes bull runs, bullfights, dances, sporting and cultural activities, and a procession in honour of San Lorenzo. Individual events may vary from year to year. If you want to plan your trip around a particular event, check the dates and the specific festival programme in advance.
