Monsagro brings together distinct cultural and natural highlights: the threshing floors of the Eras de Monsagro, a Botanical Garden and several hiking trails. There is also a traditional summer festival, a winter patron saint’s festival and a bathing spot reachable via a short walk. You can plan your stay around the places and activities that interest you most.

Nature Park and Botanical Garden

Monsagro is one of the municipalities in the Las Batuecas-Sierra de Francia Nature Park and the Sierras de Béjar and de Francia Biosphere Reserve. The Monsagro Botanical Garden displays the Nature Park’s native flora across an area of almost two hectares. Those interested in plants will find a dedicated focus here alongside the town’s cultural sites and hiking trails.

The garden is laid out as a circular route. Information and identification signs accompany the walk, where you can see more than 40 tree and shrub species. The combination of trail and signs makes the garden a botanical walk with a specific connection to the Nature Park’s flora. The figures for the area and number of species also convey the garden’s scale: it covers almost two hectares and showcases a variety of more than 40 tree and shrub species.

Another natural attraction is El Charco de los Mozos, a fully equipped bathing spot. It can be reached via a pleasant walk of less than one kilometre. This means that, in addition to the botanical walk, Monsagro offers a bathing spot and longer hiking trails as different options for planning your day.

The Eras de Monsagro and their festival days

On 11 December 2025, the Eras de Monsagro were declared a Bien de Interés Cultural in the “Conjunto Etnográfico” category by the Junta de Castilla y León. The Eras comprise 30 circular threshing floors built on terraces. Each one has stone walls topped with a row of slate slabs. Their number, layout and building materials give the threshing floors a clearly defined form and make the Eras a defining cultural feature of Monsagro.

The traditional Día de la Trilla is part of the annual cycle at the Eras. It takes place there every year on the first weekend in August. Another date in the festival calendar is the winter patron saint’s festival in honour of the patron saint, Bishop San Julián: in Monsagro, it is celebrated on 28 January. The dates fall in distinctly different seasons, so if you would like to plan your trip around a festival, you can choose between the August weekend and the January feast day.

Plan your hiking routes and journey

Two routes with different durations and difficulty ratings are available for a hike. The Camino Rubio is 6.62 kilometres long, is rated easy and has a stated duration of one hour and 38 minutes. The Camino Rosa is slightly longer at 7.14 kilometres, has a moderate difficulty rating and a stated duration of two hours and five minutes. The two routes therefore differ not only in length, but also in difficulty and estimated time. Route details may change; check the latest information before setting out.

From Salamanca, Monsagro can be reached by public transport via an Autocares J. Cristeto bus to El Cabaco, followed by a taxi. As schedules may change, check the latest departure times before travelling and plan your onward journey from El Cabaco. Once there, you can choose activities to suit your interests: the threshing floors and festival days represent cultural heritage, while the Botanical Garden and trails offer nature and exercise; El Charco de los Mozos adds a bathing spot to the options.
