In Baños de Valdearados, a series of discoveries leads from its Roman past to its wine-growing landscape: a late Roman villa, a church with a Renaissance portal, and a trail to stone vineyard huts. Fiesta a Baco also connects the town with its Roman history. You can take these cultural and scenic highlights into account when planning your trip.

Roman Heritage and Church Art

The Villa romana de Santa Cruz is a late Roman villa dating from the 4th to 6th centuries. Its features included systems for water supply, storage and drainage, as well as heating. These features offer insight into the site’s infrastructure and add to its historical context. A report dated August 19, 2026, listed visiting hours as Wednesday to Sunday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and additionally on Saturdays, 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Check the hours before your visit, as schedules may change.

Another chapter in the town’s history is represented by the Iglesia parroquial de Nuestra Sra. De la Asunción. The church dates from the 17th century, is Neoclassical in style and has a Renaissance portal. Its furnishings include altarpieces and Gothic carvings from the 18th century. Different periods come together in this building: the church itself is Neoclassical, while its portal and interior furnishings point to other art-historical influences.

Wine Country and Trails

The Ermita del Santo Cristo del Consuelo stands on a hill honeycombed with cellars. From there, you can see Baños de Valdearados. The chapel, hilltop and view of the town are all close together, giving the visit a distinctive connection to the landscape.

The Sendero del Vallejo del Lobo PRC-BU 70 starts at a recreational area on the edge of town and runs parallel to the Bañuelos River as far as the vineyards and stone guardaviñas. These former shelters were used by the workers who tended the vines before the grape harvest. The route thus combines views of the vineyards with a glimpse of the work involved in caring for the vines.

At the highest point in the valley, on the páramo, the trail opens up views of the Sierras de Cervera. The landscape there includes cereal fields, vineyards and old tenadas. The focus shifts as you make your way along the trail: after the vineyards and their former shelters comes a wide view over fields and mountain ranges. No information is available about walking time or difficulty, so plan your hike according to your own needs.

Fiesta a Baco and Wine

Fiesta a Baco is a historical re-enactment festival connected with the Roman world, held in the centre of Baños de Valdearados. The 2026 edition took place on August 22 and 23. The festival programme includes theatrical performances, legionary parades, gladiator fights, birds of prey displays and participation in the Baco Race. At the taverns, visitors can sample local products alongside a wine from Ribera del Duero. If you would like to combine your trip with the festival, check the specific event dates when planning.

Wine can also be a starting point for a visit outside the festival. At Mosaico de Baco, you can get to know the winery and learn about the production, ageing, bottling and labelling of its wines. This is followed by a tasting of two representative wines; reservations are recommended. You can also enquire there about visits to the centuries-old vineyards in the municipality of Baños de Valdearados. Making an enquiry is the right first step if you would like to include the vineyards in your plans.

Regional Cuisine

The area around Baños de Valdearados offers a varied culinary scene, including migas a la pastora, lamb and wild boar stews, mushrooms and frite de cordero. Other dishes include the famous sopa de ajo carretero, fresh sheep’s cheese, sheep stew and chickpea stew. This selection ranges from simple stews to dishes featuring lamb and wild boar, adding a regional food perspective to the wine and cultural experiences.
