Teixeiro offers several distinct reasons to stay: two hiking routes, each three kilometres long, routes around Carregal, a market held twice a month and cultural events. When choosing your travel dates, first consider whether you would rather focus on one of the trails, the river area, or a market or cultural event. This makes it easier to find a suitable hotel in Teixeiro: decide what you want to prioritise and plan your stay accordingly.
Hiking trails and Carregal
The A Ponte Mascoto hiking route connects Teixeiro and Mascoto over a distance of 3 km. The Ruta dos plátanos is also 3 km long and connects Santaia and Teixeiro. Both trails are therefore the same stated length and are linked to Teixeiro, but each leads to a different other place. If you are deciding between them, the endpoint is a useful distinction: Mascoto for one route, Santaia for the other.
The SM.02 Ruta paseo fluvial de Carregal offers a different perspective: it follows the Carregal River through Teixeiro. The Ruta de Aves: Río do Carregal passes through a riverside woodland inhabited by numerous bird species. The two descriptions emphasise different things: the course of the river in one case, and the riverside woodland and its birdlife in the other. If you are especially interested in birds, the woodland offers a specific connection with nature; if you prefer to follow the river, you can use the SM.02 Ruta paseo fluvial de Carregal as your guide.
Market and local culture
The Feria de Teixeiro is held on the 5th and 18th of each month in Plaza de España, in front of the town hall. If visiting the market is a key part of your stay, you can plan your travel dates around one of these monthly market days; check the exact date in advance.
Mushroom gastronomy also features in the events calendar: the programme for the XIX Exaltación dos Cogomelos de Teixeiro included a gastronomic route through participating restaurants in Curtis and Teixeiro. They offered a variety of mushroom tapas, small dishes and meals. The programme thus brought together two places and several forms of mushroom cuisine. Dates and participating establishments depended on the edition; check the relevant programme if you are planning a specific visit.
The VIII Ruada de Teixeiro programme included performances by various groups featuring traditional singing and dancing. In contrast to the mushroom gastronomic route, this programme focused on music and dance. If you are planning your visit around an event, coordinate your stay with the relevant edition.
