A 1.3-kilometre route marked with pavement tiles and a permanent art gallery of painted doors and windows give Moraleja two distinct cultural experiences. Add to these its notable buildings and Parque Fluvial Feliciano Vegas, with recreational and picnic areas. This makes it easy to plan a stay around clear priorities: local culture, time outdoors, or both. The Oficina de Turismo de Moraleja is located at Plaza de los Toros 5, 10810 Moraleja (Cáceres).

Art and Architecture in Moraleja

The “RuteAndo Moraleja” walking route begins at Plaza España and ends at the Ermita de las Angustias. Its 1.3-kilometre course is marked with pavement tiles and is designed for exploring the town’s tourist attractions. As a compact cultural walk, it is a well-defined activity; its start and finish provide two fixed points of reference for your visit.

“Moraleja Puerta en Puerta” is a permanent art gallery made up of painted doors and windows. The tower of the Iglesia Parroquial Nuestra Señora de la Piedad is its most interesting and best-preserved part. The church also houses a small 16th-century carved figure of the Virgen de los Desamparados.

El Puente has a total of 14 arches of different sizes and designs. The Rollo Picota represents another aspect of the town’s history: it is a monumental testament to the historical privilege of the Villa de Moraleja to administer justice. Its architectural variety and the history of the administration of justice can thus be explored as distinct themes in local culture.

River Park and Landscape

Parque Fluvial Feliciano Vegas has recreational areas, picnic spots, outdoor showers, extensive shaded areas, and parking. Within the park is the Piscina Natural de Moraleja, located in the municipal area just a few metres from the town centre. The park is therefore a convenient place to enjoy a range of outdoor leisure activities. Facilities may change; check what is currently available before your visit.

The municipality of Moraleja is mostly flat. El Chorreón is considered the main attraction on the PR CC 187 “Ruta al Chorreón” hiking trail. At the turn-off to the Molino and the bridge at El Chorreón, there is a scenic spot with a rest area.

Festivals and Bird Days

The Fiestas de San Buenaventura have a history spanning more than 100 years and centre on the bull. During the five-day festival, six young bulls are driven at 1 p.m. along a 680-metre route from the Corrales to the Plaza de Toros in the town centre. Dates vary each year; check the exact festival dates for your planned stay.

Since 2012, “Moraleja Vuela” has connected Moraleja with an ornithological event focused on cranes and other birds. Check the exact dates and programme before you travel. If you would like to plan your stay around an event date, checking this is a useful first step; regardless, the art gallery, buildings, and river park offer other themes to consider when planning your visit.
