The terrain around Collado de la Vera is predominantly hilly, with granite and slate hills and small gorges. To the south, the landscape flattens out to form productive, irrigated vegas. The surrounding area includes chestnut, oak and cork oak forests, as well as scrubland with heather, strawberry trees and rockrose. Garganta Pedro Chate is another notable landscape feature; it is designated as a Scenic Area.
Circular route and waterside scenery
The Ruta de las Dos Juntas is a six-kilometre circular route of low difficulty. The start and finish are at Plaza El Llano. Along the way, the route follows Arroyo de las Posadillas and approaches Garganta Pedro Chate. This means you can understand the route not only by its length and shape: the names of the two waterways also provide a clear reference for its course.
Another natural attraction is Garganta Las Pilas, a natural bathing area on Garganta Pedro Chate in the municipality of Collado de la Vera. Its clear, cold water is suitable for swimming. As conditions can vary seasonally, it is best to check them before your visit. This helps ensure your plans for a swim reflect the conditions on site.
Fishing is also possible in Collado de la Vera. Action Vera has a multi-adventure centre there, in the north of the province of Cáceres. If you would like to include the centre in your plans, check the provider’s latest information; operator details may change.
Village life, church and traditions
The Iglesia Parroquial San CristĂłbal dates from the 15th century and was built using masonry, small ashlar masonry and brick. A fountain with a trough stands beside the parish church in Plaza de Collado de la Vera. The square is a typical, welcoming meeting place for locals and visitors. A walk through the streets of Collado de la Vera also gives you the opportunity to discover local culture, traditions and popular festivals.
The festival calendar features several different events. The Fiestas Patronales de San CristĂłbal take place on the first weekend of August. The Fiestas de Nuestra Sra. del Rosario fall on the first weekend of October and include both a religious and a social programme; the specific programme may vary. The Santo Jubileo takes place on the Wednesday of Holy Week. Collado has held this privilege since the 16th century; the Santo Jubileo represents a plenary indulgence. If you would like to plan your trip around a festival, check the dates and programme for the relevant year.
Food from Collado

Collado also forms part of the production area for paprika, ham and extra virgin olive oil, each of which has its own designation of origin. The cuisine and local produce offer another way to experience the area alongside its natural and cultural attractions.
