Blancafort lies on the southern slope of the Serra del Tallat. Winegrowing, local history and signposted trails offer different ways to plan a stay. A stroll through the town centre, a hike connecting to La Ruta del Cister or a visit to a private winery each raise different planning considerations. The routes, architectural heritage and opportunities for visits give you concrete points of reference to help you choose.
Routes around Blancafort
Three signposted health routes run around the town centre. They can be used on foot or by mountain bike; pedestrians have priority. The Itinerari saludable VERD de Blancafort is a 2,501-metre circular route. It starts at the Parc de Salut del mirador del Tallat and passes through the town centre. This route therefore offers a clearly defined way to combine a circuit with a walk through the town.
The Blancafort al Santuari del Tallat route follows a different course: it is signposted for mountain bikes and is also suitable for hiking. For pedestrians, it connects with La Ruta del Cister, GR®175. When choosing between the routes, you can consider these differences: the VERD route is described as a circuit through the town centre, while the route to Santuari del Tallat is distinguished by its connection to the long-distance trail for hikers.
The Itinerari saludable VERMELL de Blancafort offers another focus. It is intended to highlight Blancafort’s cultural and natural heritage. The named routes therefore place different aspects at their centre: the town-centre circuit, the connection for hikers to the GR®175, and the cultural and natural heritage.
Architectural history and townscape
The architectural heritage also offers different ways to explore Blancafort’s history. The parish church of Santa Maria Magdalena is listed as a protected building in the BCIL category. The remains of Castell de Blancafort include slightly pointed arches incorporated into later buildings, as well as original corner stones. The former town wall enclosed the entire old town and had five gates. The church, castle remains and town wall thus represent different parts of the built heritage.
Winegrowing and visits
Vineyards, covering an area of 364 hectares, are among Blancafort’s main crops. The Celler Cooperatiu de Blancafort was founded in 1896. In addition, two private wineries in Blancafort offer visits. If you would like to plan a visit, check availability with the winery in advance. This lets you include a winery visit as a separate activity without conflating it with the history of the cooperative cellar.
Events and regional orientation
Event dates can also be important when choosing when to travel: the Mitja MaratĂł takes place in April. The Pujada al Cap del Coll is a cycling event in August. If you would like to plan your trip around one of these events, check the dates for your intended year of travel. Blancafort lies in the centre of the Conca de BarberĂ , on La Ruta del Cister. The TV-2337 road connects the town with Montblanc.
