Only the stone façade remains of Cal Massot, a 16th-century manor house in the old town of el Palau d’Anglesola. Other features include a neoclassical church, modernist architecture, pilgrim routes and festivals held on fixed dates. If you are looking for a focus for your stay, you can consider architectural history, routes and event dates as different themes.

Churches and Historic Buildings

The Església Sant Joan Baptista was built between 1798 and 1807 in the neoclassical style. It dates from a different period to the 16th-century buildings: Cal Massot is a manor house in the old town, of which only the stone façade remains. The Ermita de Santa Llúcia also dates from the 16th century. The chapel is built against the cemetery wall and has a square floor plan and a stone façade. At Santa Llúcia, the chapel’s form and location stand out, while at Cal Massot, its particular state of preservation is noteworthy.

Another cultural reference is La Passió. The play was performed from 1953 to 1971 at the Teatre Victòria in el Palau d’Anglesola, revived in the 1980s and finally discontinued in 1992. The sequence of its initial run, revival and final end forms a closed chapter in the town’s history—unlike the buildings, which continue to define the town today.

Modernist Architecture and Former Agricultural Sites

Part of the Cooperativa del camp Sant Roc was built by architect Cèsar Martinell i Brunet and features modernist characteristics. The Rutes del vi route also leads to a building by Martinell in el Palau d’Anglesola: a former wine cellar and olive oil mill belonging to the former agricultural syndicate. These two places offer different ways to explore architectural history. At the Cooperativa, the focus is on the modernist character of part of the building and its architect; at the route stop, it is on the site’s former functions as a wine cellar and olive oil mill.

Routes and Local Orientation

The Camí Ignasià passes through the town area and is signposted there with the relevant waymarkers in 2026. The Camí de Sant Jaume also passes through el Palau d’Anglesola and continues along the Catalan route towards Lleida and Santiago de Compostela. The routes differ in the waypoints available for orientation: for the Ignasià, the route and signposting within the town area are specified; for the Camí de Sant Jaume, the direction in which it continues is given.

The pilgrim refuge is also part of the local pilgrimage tradition. In 2026, it is run by 23 volunteer hospitaleros from the Amics del Camí association. As a further geographical reference point, the auxiliary canal of the Canal d’Urgell crosses the municipality; locally, it is called the subchannel.

Leisure Activities and Festivals

The Parc dels Drets de la Infància i Adolescència offers a different focus from the historic buildings. It has a circular walking path, a skate park and a zip line—three different ways to enjoy outdoor activity.

The local festivals take place in June and August. For Sant Joan, Diada dels Països Catalans, on 24 June, the Flama del Canigó is carried through the town’s streets and squares on the night of 23 June, and a communal bonfire is lit. This is distinct from the Festa Major d’estiu: held on 29 August in honour of Sant Joan Baptista, it includes, among other things, Sardana dancing, Correfocs, a fireworks display and the Matinal Cicloturista cycling tour. Another August event is the Aplec in honour of the saint at the Parc de l’ermita de Sant Roc, held every year on 16 August. The two August festivals therefore have different dates and associations: Sant Roc on 16 August and Sant Joan Baptista at the Festa Major on 29 August.
